I think I'd rather have somebody less experienced that hasn't proven himself. Hope I'm wrong though.

Ryan Leaf spoke highly of him in a 2012 interview with ESPN, lmao.

I wonder how far down the list Riley was for Eichorst. 3rd? 4th? 11th?

Been doing some reading and I've become really excited about this guy.. His temperment seems more akin to TOs which a lot of fans will like and he's been mentioned quite a bit as one of the best evaluators of talent in CFB.

No clue who any of the coordinators are going to be just yet but Ed Orgeron was mentioned as being interested in coming and has the same agent as Mike Riley. If they get Coach O we will see the return of punishing Blackshirts.. also this is the same guy who recruited the NC winning players under USC's Pete Carroll. I'm excited for Riley already but will be really excited if they get Rockstar Coordinators.

Eichorst did not just pull Riley out of the hat like that in a couple of days. Nope Im not buying it. Eichorst has probably had his eye on Riley for months maybe even years. Theres a good chance Eichorst even had an investigator checking out Riley for months. Riley can play dumb and say he knew nothing but we all know he has an agent. We all know Riley and his agent must have been talking months ago about scouting around for a pay day. Both Riley and Eichorst had their feelers out months ago and this thing was cooked up then.

Totally agree Grandpa.. Was reading today that Barry Alvarez wanted to hire Mike Riley after Bielema left but instead they hired Current HC Gary Anderson. I'm willing to bet since Alvarez is Eichorst's mentor this has been in the works for quite a while.

Really liked the Press Conference today he seems to be the kind of personality that a lot of people with fond memories of TO are going to enjoy.

Alabama wanted him, USC wanted him twice and Wisconsin wanted him. I understand why the casual fan might not be familiar with him, but people who really follow football think he's a great coach. We'll see how he does, but the idea that this was a desperation hire is not supported by any evidence whatsoever.

Really interesting reading the timeline for interviewing Coach Riley in the OWH. The AD delayed at the Lincoln airport while waiting for the commercial flight to San Francisco is a classic Lincoln airport truth. Seems that the Tuesday interview (and the ADs decision to hire him) doesn't jive with Bret Bigass's rejection of Nebraska's "offer" or of Eichorst's 3rd or 4th "choice". He got who he wanted all along. Final reaction, in my opinion, will have to wait on the results but seems like a good hire for now.

Warren was one of the few recruiters on the trail after his hiring, and not being on the staff for very long is still considered outside of Pelini's inner circle... Great former recruiter for USAF...

I'm pretty happy they kept him.. this guy was the reason that we had a top 10 recruiting class before we ran out of spots and other teams started reloading.

He certainly knows how to work a crowd and work with people better than the previous coach by far.

It still confuses me to look back at Bo's attitude while he was here.

Yesterday, Mike Riley won his first game as a head coach since October 28, 2017. He now coaches the San Antonio Commanders, of the AAF, who defeated the San Diego Fleet, 15 to 6.

San Antonio Commanders open Alliance play with win against San Diego Fleet
San Antonio Commanders coach Mike Riley said he felt a surge of pride in the city when he walked out of the Alamodome tunnel, led by a man on horseback waving a saber as fire shot into the air.

The Commanders were greeted by 27,857 fans who came to watch the city’s latest effort at hosting spring football, this time under the banner of the Alliance of American Football. San Antonio came away with a 15-6 victory over the San Diego Fleet in the Alamodome.
