This past Saturday, Nebraska-Omaha pitchers Zach Williamsen and Tyler Hamer combined to no-hit the Chicago State Cougars. Williamsen threw the first five innings, walking one and striking out five. Hamer threw the last four innings, walking one and striking out four.

Critics will come back and squawk about the level of competition, but to that, I have two responses. First, a no-hitter is a no-hitter at the Division I level. I don’t care who it is against. Those guys in the other dugout were good enough to be recruited by a D-I program, so they have the talent to get hits at this level. Second, Chicago State wasn’t a bad offense last year, as they hit .275 as a team, and eight of their top nine hitters from last year are back this year.
