It would be a lot of fun to see Creighton and Neb-Omaha face each other in the NIT. Of course, Neb-Omaha would have to win the Summit League regular season to get in.

Saw a piece of mcdermotts after the game press conference -- he was pretty brutal - sounds like the players aren't listening very well

Yeah, they mentioned on the news, that is as bad as you are going to see him talk about the team. Something needs to happen. I was talking with quite a few people that sit around me at games and we all agree. Last year's team was not good athletically, but they always came out and gave it their best. This year's team, while not great, is much better but the all of the conference games that they have lost, they have had no energy including last night and the pink out game. Hard to win, when as a player you have no hustle or just simple knowledge of how the game works. You can't throw a sidearm pass across the lane when there is a 6'11" center standing there.

From my perspective, they played pretty hard in the 2nd half. They shoot a lot of three-pointers with players that really should not be shooting so many threes game in and game out. Watson is fun to watch, but all season, people have been overlooking the part of him also being turnover prone. I thought Grosselle and Hanson were pretty good last night.

One thing to be aware of is that as talent level increases, it becomes harder to find players that bring the same intensity as less athletic mid-major players. The pool of mid-major players is much larger.

I tend to agree with you on that one. I feel like some of the more athletic players feel like they can take a night off or coast through games in the season.

Great game by the Jays today (100-59). Chris Mullin got ejected and Creighton tied the largest margin of defeat for a St. Johns team with their 41 pt loss to #1 Kentucky in 1951.

The Mullin Ejection was weird. He must have been cussing from the bench or something. I don't even think he was standing up during one of the technical. Here is a photo after he got ejected: http://photos.whiteandbluereview.com/p7 ... #h66e67823

At one point he was telling the reffs this wasn't a foul... Apparently he can't see the guy grabbing the elbow: http://photos.whiteandbluereview.com/p7 ... #h613adffe

Overall it was a fun game to cover. Here are all our photos:

Yeah that clearly was a foul when they grabbed Mo Watson's arm. I thought the refs did seem to favor Creighton a little yesterday, but once Creighton went on that 24-6 run the game was over anyway.

Wow, the Jays are getting screwed by the refs so far in the game. 14 fouls on the Jays and only 4 on Providence. Jays are up 4 right now though.

11 of those are on the bigs. They may have to go all guards pretty soon...

And the foul disparity continues. Jays: 18, Providence: 8

Creighton is shooting well, but when you don't get any calls to go your way, it is hard to keep pace.

There has been a couple times Milliken has driven and gotten smacked with nothing. Then consider GG gets his 4th on an iffy one and Hegner goes out on an offensive screen, tough.

Over achieved this year, but damn still felt like we left way too many opportunities out there.

Hate to jump a year ahead already, but adding Foster to this team is going to be huge.

Not that the Jays were going to win but you gotta love the call with 5-6 seconds to go. Creighton trying to foul and no foul called, instead they call a tie-up and the possession arrow went to Providence. Fouls: CU: 24, Prov: 11.

I thought the Jays did a great job of hanging around with Mo Watson getting hurt and our bigs not able to bring anything except fouls. Milliken had a great game. Career-high 26 pts to go along with 4 rebs.

Absolutely. The nice thing is, he has proven he can score in the best conference in the country. Also be nice to have Justin Patton who is thin, but provides a much more active post player. Lastly I am excited about Davion Mintz (recruit) who is tearing up high school in NC in leading his team to the state tournament.

Yeah I think Hanson can be just as effective as GG was this year. I do worry about the post depth b/c Hegner and Krameplj are both more perimeter oriented, but having 4 options to run out there instead of three will hopfully keep the team out of the foul trouble that GG and Hanson seemed to always be in this year.

Mintz is killing it this year. Him learning from Mo for a season is really exciting, I think Albert has shown he deserves more PT lately too.

Not sure why Ronnie Harrell didn't play at all tonight, especially with all the foul trouble. Must have gotten on coach's bad side.

Jays are now 1-6 in games decided by 5 pts or fewer this season and 2-16 in the past 18 games decided by 5 or less.

As a non creighton fan this officiating is even pissing me off. Xavier is one of the worst flopping teams I have seen in a while.

I didn't get to watch too much of this game, but from the looks of the final stats, the fouls didn't look anywhere near as bad as the last game. In fact, if the Jays made a few more free throws, it is a different game.

Overall, not a bad game. Took the #5 team in the nation right down to the final 30 secs.

Looking at the current regular season-ending standings, it is incredible to see how far Creighton has come.

The Jays have played 3 of the top 6 teams and 4 in the top 10.

Jays overachieved a bit this season, but they still weren't very good in the end. They really needed more out of their centers tonight.

I agree, the centers were horrible late in the season, especially Hanson. He brought nothing (missed FTs, few rbs, and tons of fouls) Hegner and Zierdan also seemed to disappear. Not to mention that Khryri Thomas hasn't scored in double-digits since 12/28/15. He definitely hit a freshman wall. Hopefully next year they can better as a team. There were very few games this year in conference play where the team was solid. Usually one or two guys carried the team and tonight was no different with Huff and Milliken.

Overall, great improvement from last season. Can't wait for next year!

Next year is a make or break year for McDermott. Elimination of the late breakdowns is beyond essential.

Hopefully since Creighton is a Jesuit University that means they can petition Jesus to bring back John Wooden and have him be the coach.

I completely agree with your 2nd sentence. Naturally, better players will help and the Jays will have a more talented team next season..

But is coach McDermott on the hot seat for next season? I don't sense that he is. But if his team achieves the same results after the 2016/17 campaign, the burners could definitely be turned on for 2017/18.. Unless he were to jump ship on his own like Altman. Don't see that happening either though..

What do you guys think?...

Unless I am completely off I would not think McDermott is on the hot seat whatsoever.

I don't think he is either. Now, if as you mentioned, they have another mediocre season next year, 2017 he could be. However, as also mentioned before, 2017 has an amazing recruiting class so far.

Creighton was picked to finish 9th in the BEast. I think they did very well with what the had this year. How many recruiting season's has McDermott had trying to get Big East type players? and the first year doesn't count...

I think one of the problems has been his not trusting his bench enough and wearing down his starters. Despite a pulled groing, how many minutes did Mo play down the stretch? Having only one point guard hurts. Groselle started the season great, but was his stamina ready for a full season? When you live and die by the three, what happens when you go 1-18? Or another team goes 13-18?

I think Coach Mac will be given as much time as he is willing to stay in Omaha.

Everybody loved Dana, and given the players he was able to recruit he did well. Now he is at Oregon, has his players set, and now he is in the Pac12 Championship game with a chance for a 2 seed. Dana was a great coach.

Creighton is building up its facilities and reputation... The have a top 5 recruiting class this season. Their future looks very bright...

I agree guys.

CU just completed its 3rd season in Big East play and only the 2nd without Dougie McBucket's.. They improved this year over last. My expectation is a similar improvement next season with, hopefully, a spot in the NCAA Tournament. A good springboard for that, would be a good Jays showing in the NIT.. Which I expect them to receive a bid...

You all think the fans, administration, boosters will tolerate another Non-NCAA season? One that they may not even get an NIT birth?

I agree that the pieces MAY finally be coming into place, but if there isn't an NCAA birth soon, I would think folks might be rather restless.
