UNO Soccer 2015

Post by Stargazer »

I think a thread for UNO soccer is warranted.

The exhibition win over 10th ranked Washington was an eye opener, now they beat 13th ranked UC Irvine, couple days later, score twice as many goals as Creighton scored on Cal State Northridge.

I think it's safe to say, Creighton might have a formidable cross town rival emerging. Is there a Creighton/UNO men's match scheduled in the coming seasons? I know the women have played.

I don't see a UNO/Creighton matchup for the 2015 season.

I know there isn't this year, they need to start regularly scheduling one in the coming seasons, if they haven't already.

Didn't they have an exhibition earlier, I know I talked with a UNO coach at Morrison not long ago...

Yeah, they've played a couple of exhibition games in the past.

Would be great for the soccer community to see the two play.

On another note Creighton smoked UCI. Might be tough to get teams to come in for two matches if both teams keep winning!

I was going to start this thread a few days ago...

Mavs’ upset of No. 13 UC Irvine a ‘program-defining moment’
Heading into the match with UC Irvine, UNO was 0-3-1 against ranked teams, with the only draw coming against No. 24 Cal State Northridge last season.
UNO now has victories over then #13 UCI and Northridge, starting 4-0.
@Marquette next. I really hope they get at least a few considerations in the next poll...

Throwing in:
For the third consecutive year, the Denver Pioneers have been selected as the favorite to capture The Summit League's men's soccer title in a poll of the league's head coaches.

Omaha, in its first year of eligibility for the league tournament, was picked second followed by last season's runner-up Western Illinois in third. The top three positions in the preseason poll were all separated by just one point.

I guess Creighton throttled Irvine as well, yesterday. I would have to assume that the Mavs will start getting some top 20 votes.

UNO finished their pre-Conference schedule with a 5-1 record, their lone loss at Big East Marquette (0-1).
It will be interesting to see how they go through the Summit!

I hate to nitpick, but 6-1. Wins: UMKC, Pacific, UC Irvine, Cal State Northridge, Depaul and Bradley. Don't want to short change the team.

The mavs were picked to finish 2nd in the preseason poll (behind Denver and ahead of Western Illinois). As things look now I'm pretty optimistic about their chances in conference.

What's really exciting, though, is a possible NCAA tournament appearance (now that the Div I transition is complete).

Coach Mims just has to keep this momentum going.

I only counted seven wins on their schedule, the first win was an exhibition game.

My bad, I wasn't even looking at that I was looking at Denver's line.... 11-0-2. Not sure how I crossed that up... Better go get another cup of coffee.
