Available tickets. The heat has not helped along with not having many teams with fan bases that travel (like Texas, LSU, Mississipi schools). They were mentioning on Sharp and Benning that there have been anywhere from 800-1500 tickets available to the sessions yesterday and today (not sure on Saturday). Said these are much higher levels than normal. If you were thinking about going to a game, no better year than this.

2016 CWS

Postby Greg S » Mon Jun 20, 2016 10:09 am

TCU seemed to have a decent amount of fans yesterday. I've also seen quite a few from Okie State.

If I had to guess I'd say at least 75% of the fans are local.

Years ago it was impossible to get a hotel room in town, at least for the first 5-7 days. We've got more rooms now plus I don't think we get quite as many traveling fans as we used to. You can tell we still get quite a few based on the rates around town. All those little league tourneys really help.

The other thing you don't see any more. All the RV's....

I have no idea. Was wondering what happened to it. Having those near the stadium always added to the atmosphere.

There is a Dingervill thread here that said they were moving up by Freedom Park, but that was before the flood of 2011.

May not have it exactly right because I heard it on the radio on 590.

5 of the last 7 years there have been rain delays for CWS games played on June 20.

College World Series, Swim Trials could mean
$50 million worth of national TV exposure for Omaha
Steve Jordon / World-Herald staff writer wrote:The College World Series rivals Nebraska football in the audience and value of TV coverage, while the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials trails.
But combined, the two national sporting events in Omaha this month could generate $50 million worth of national TV exposure and an estimated 380 million audience “impressions,” based on past history.

Former UCSB, and Colorado Rockies payer Ryan Spilborghs is on Jim Rome right now really talking up Omaha. Apparently after the win last night he bought 57 shots to get SCSB up to number one on the Goodnight's Pizza scoreboard.

Lots of empty seats in those first few games. Moving this thing from South Omaha and destroying that stadium and all those traditions was a fools boondoggle that is surely going to end bad. Thats my prediction. All we keep hearing is these teams don't travel blah blah blah. Of course its all lies because they never did travel in great droves to Omaha to see their teams play. The CWS was always nothing without the support of locals and I think the locals don't like going downtown that much. I could see the CWS having serious trouble getting the locals to patronize this event in another 4 or 5 years.

Why is the attendance debate brought up every single year? The attendance numbers have been higher at TD Ameritrade then they were at Rosenblatt. 2013 was the record year of per game attendance, while 2015 had the highest overall attendance, which broke 350,000 for the first time.

Here is the attendance history:

Following are the attendance figures for the years the College World Series
has been played in Omaha, plus the two years in Kalamazoo, Mich., and one
year in Wichita, Kan. The total attendance in the 65-year history of the CWS
is 7,886,517. The 62-year Omaha total is 7,864,373 spectators, an average of
126,845 per year. For the last fi ve years (2007-11) the average is 323,897.

No. At one point he said "one more win and his is on a plane", meaning if they win tomorrow. Then later he said he wishes he was here, then later he told KB he was hosting tomorrow, but KB said no he was coming to Omaha with him, so then he told Alvin he was hosting tomorrow. My guess is that he won't come unless they make it to Monday.

Great stats! While the total attendance is bolstered by the fact that the current CWS structure has more games than it used to, the average attendance has been steady with where it was before the move, and in a couple of years, actually been higher at TDAPO than it ever was at Rosenblatt. This myth of lower attendance post-Rosenblatt and people not wanting to go downtown for a ballgame is just that -- a myth.

It's also worth noting that there's an awful lot of places to walk around at TDAPO (and hang out), so just because it looks like there's empty seats on TV, those people could very well be inside the ballpark -- just not sitting in their seats.

That's nowhere near 353,000 people. Many people attend multiple games. I would suspect the number of unique individuals is well under 100,000 total.

Beautiful sky at the game last night. Also, Kirk Cousins was there. Being a huge Redskins' fan I was ecstatic. The largest cheers were when asked where the toughest place to play in college was and he said Nebraska. Then he said "Go Big Red"

25,367 for last night's game. I would think that tonight's game between TCU and Coastal Carolina would be large as well.

The crowd at this afternoon's game looked like the smallest I have ever seen at a CWS game. Almost like when Creighton is playing.

I was mowing the lawn and then took my walk for the day. It was pretty nasty out today. The teams are really stretching it out this year. Gonna be tough to keep attendance up for every game. I worked parking for both day and night games. It was not a great turnout.

It's at times like these... when I think back how nice it would have been, if we actually said #$@# the CWS, let's build a beautiful minor league ballpark downtown, which would be frequented by several thousand people, 72+ times a year. Let's face it, the vast majority of CWS fans are from the Omaha area anyway. They can produce their own economic impact. CWS is little more than a feather in our civic cap.

Nasty weather, teams that don't travel, the swim trials' impact on family entertainment budgets, the cost of concessions, the hassle with getting there, and the tradition of selling 5 GA tickets for every seat available and then those who buy MAY BE get a seat, have all combined to hit the CWS.

The ticket people should accept GA seats after the third inning for any open seat. Have a box and you can't be bothered to show up sooner that 1/3 the way through? Too bad. The concessions are OK, but lets get the PR people to emphasize the quality of the hotdogs and other affordable stuff and not let the OWH food critic have a orgasm over an 18 inch burrito. If I am at home planning for tomorrow's game and I see a news report about how good the cheap hotdogs are, I am bringing money for the family to eat some hotdogs. If I see a news report about some crazy food item, I am making plans to hit McD's on the way down.

Schools get allotments of tickets and should either buy them or give them back. A better option would be to let them decline up front so these blocks can be sold at the GA window in advance.

Amen. Actually we didn't decide to build that ballpark our shady mayor (Fehey) at the time knew that if the public had a chance to vote on that Boondoggle downtown baseball Stadium plan we would vote no. So he and his fellow scammers arranged it so we never had a chance to vote on it. They stole our money to build that stadium to line their pockets and they will keep stealing our money for years to come to keep that stadium going and line their pockets. I eat out almost every day of the year and I must have paid thousands in restaurant tax already for what so those wheeler dealers can get rich and that stadium can sit empty 90% of the time. :soap:

It's a shame that a deal wasn't worked out with the Storm Chasers. If the CWS ever decides to pack up and leave, TD stadium will be the biggest white elephant ever. Of course by the end of the contract that stadium will be 20 years old so it would probably be up for debate to demo and rebuild anyway.

Given the fact that college sports attendance, or sports in general, is strained, I'm not exactly sure why it's so surprising to some that there are games in the CWS that don't have a lot of fans in the seats? Or is this just the thing we're going to complain about this year, instead of the specific angles of the field that prevent home runs?

As for wishing we didn't build the stadium, and in turn lose the CWS, good heavens, no words.
