If the Big East wants to be more than a four bid league somebody needs to get on a roll.
Maybe Seton Hall or Marquette, Georgetown so far is a disappointment this year.

DePaul 82
(20) GW 61

(1) MSU was down by 15+ but comes back in OT to Oakland
(6) Xavier was down 15+ against Danny Manning's WF but cones back to win
NU was up 18 loses the lead and wins by 30...
What a night.

Ill St. just hung on to end Wichita St's 12 game winning streak. So glad the Jays aren't in the Valley anymore. Wichita St is 17-6 but a loss like this kills. Creighton is only 15-9 but they still have at least 3 games left vs teams ranked in the top 15.

Wichita has one win in the top 90 of the RPI. There is a real chance that they don't make the tournament as an at large if they don't win in STL. The Valley is really bad this year.

...and they will not play a top 100 for the remainder of the season. They were a projected 8 seed before today's loss.
I am so glad Creighton was able to leave the Valley.

How to host March Madness better than Omaha
Omaha. If Des Moines harbors a little-sister complex about any city, it’s for our Nebraska neighbors.

You’ve probably heard this line before: "Why doesn’t Des Moines have a (fill in the blank with any restaurant, store or event)? Omaha has one."

So, when Omaha hosted March Madness for the third time last year, Des Moines officials attended to see what they could learn.

Edwards said Des Moines will “do the little things,” like have more signs and banners around town celebrating the event and helping direct traffic. Des Moines also will staff more volunteers to welcome visitors at hotels and the airport.

Des Moines is also hosting a Fan Zone, something Omaha opted against. It will be inside Hy-Vee Hall in between game sessions Thursday and will feature food, beer, games and TVs for watching other games.
Pretty sure that would hurt local restaurants and bars, similar to what happens with the CWS every year. I am glad that Omaha didn't offer a Fan Zone with food and beer. It made the Old Market that much better.

The Old Market and surrounding area IS Omaha's Fan Fest. Omaha offered it, just didn't have to create it.

The area around the Wells Fargo Arena is damn near desolate. You have to go close to 3 blocks (I think) to get to the Buzzard Billy's that's nearby.

I am sure Des Moines will pull out all the stops and do a great job.

I don't think we need to worry about anyone else hosting events better than us though. The fact that they keep coming back and getting bigger is evidence enough.

EDIT: Des Moines did get one of the best set of teams possible. Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana and UCONN all in town is pretty nuts.

It's pretty desolate, surprised by the lack of development by the arena all these years.

Yeah, that's kind of ugly.

Also, check out the "Photographer boxes" on the lower right... Two Dozen photographers on one side of the basket on each half the court! Talked about crammed in there!

That also is correct I think.

I am basing my "No" on a bunch of the reports and discussion that took place a number of places when it was announced that there would be beer at the CWS this year. A lot or reports indicated it might be a trial balloon for other NCAA championship events.

Well, it's a new record. After the very first day, my bracket is toast. 1 elite 8 (Baylor), 2 Sweet 16s (Seton Hall and Purdue) gone.

Mine isn't quite that bad, but I did have Baylor to the elite 8 and Arizona to the sweet 16. I think that was the worst performance I have had on opening day.

For those that don't read the OWH or Shatel take a look at his column today.

He went to the Des Moines Tourney and attended and wrote a bit about their site vs Omaha.

Does a nice job of pointing out some of the advantages that Omaha has that are often discussed here.

I posted this article in another thread, but I think that observation is pretty accurate. Over 10 years later and Des Moines still has very little development around the arena. Everyone is always dogging on Omaha for the lack of development in North Downtown, but Omaha is light years ahead.

Glad Nova slammed the door shut on Iowa. Way to show the Big 10 how to play ball. What another horrendous, late season collapse for Iowa. Once ranked 3rd in the nation, they only won 3 of the last 10 games, with 2 of them coming on squeakers to Minnesota (by 4) and Temple (on a last second tip in).

What a shot for Wisconsin to win at the buzzer over Xavier. And what a collapse for UNI, up 12 with a :44 to go and lose in double ot.

They only way I could have come close in my pool were those two winning. I was bummed by those loses.

That was the biggest collapse I have ever seen in a basketball game. UNI players and fans will feel sickened by this for a long time. It was nearly mathematically impossible for them to find a way to lose in the last 38 seconds.

Being a critic of officiating all the time....the one thing I didn't like at the end of the UNI game was that Wes Washpun traveled before he made the turnover. You are not allowed to move your pivot foot and he clearly slid it before throwing the ball away. In hindsight, that non-call helped A&M since they were able to have an advantage of going to the hoop easily for the tying layup.

I just hate that refs call way worse calls and then in a clutch situation like that, they don't even blow their whistle.

If you watch from the 1:34 mark of this video, you can see he slides his right, pivot foot at least 3 times.
