I saw this on facebook, but don't have a clue if it is legit. I haven't heard anything about it, so i doubt it. Have any of you?
If it were true, that'd be awesome....

Re: IndyCar Coming To Omaha?
A road course for IndyCar? Don't they usually stick to Super Speedways, or designated tracks like Infineon? Formula 1 is the only one that I know of that has races in urban centers?

Don't follow racing much but indy cars do road courses. No ida how many or how often but I am sure I have watched part of an indy road race

Here is a story about Boston being added as a Indy Road course in 2016 and mentions wanting to add more

Re: IndyCar Coming To Omaha?
This would be darn cool. Kind of a boring course, though. Too bad we don't have more curvy roads. I think its doable because that area doesn't see much of an increase of traffic during rush hour.
It would be sweet to see a race that included the best parts of the boulevard system.

Could series run street race in Nebraska?
An Omaha businessman with ties to IndyCar says he's ready to help bring the series to Nebraska.
Chris Nielsen, who helped broker an Indy 500 sponsorship with Dryer and Reinbold Racing in 2006, has spent the last two years trying to bring the open-wheel series to Omaha.
On Tuesday, Nielsen posted on Facebook saying his group is close to having a proposal for the race, including a "scrutinized budget."
After the Boston debacle, IndyCar would likely be wary of new cities throwing in their hat in the ring to host a race. However, according to Nielsen's post, local businesses seem to be behind an Omaha event, an aspect that Boston lacked.
In a separate post, Nielsen said that the race could be a go as early as 2018.

I also found this on redit.com. I have no idea if it is legit or not:
Re: IndyCar Coming To Omaha?
I searched and searched and then I finally remember what I was thinking. It wasn't one eomaha, but a few months ago when I was on the Grow Omaha Radio show, a caller called and asked about it. Jeff Beals knew a little about it.thenewguy wrote:Brad wrote:I thought we already had a thread on this?

That's it. I searched also, thinking there was something on here. I was going to post that, but thought it was a pipe dream...
Re: IndyCar Coming To Omaha?
This is very much a real possibility. I attended a meeting last spring sponsored by the Greater Omaha Chamber where this was discussed in detail. The race track would start by the CenturyLink Center and then snake around north downtown. Some modifications of certain streets would take place. It would be very cool even for non-racing fans...
Re: IndyCar Coming To Omaha?
I wonder how the street modifications would impact the feel of the area. I read somewhere that one of the street modifications would include removal of the entire landscaped median along 10th in front of the CLink :/
Re: IndyCar Coming To Omaha?
That would not be worth it for what could end up being a one-time deal.mr. omaha wrote:I wonder how the street modifications would impact the feel of the area. Re: IndyCar Coming To Omaha?
They should do it at 114th and Dodge, all that landscaping that has looked like heck since day one, is almost all dead now...Taco wrote:That would not be worth it for what could end up being a one-time deal.mr. omaha wrote:I wonder how the street modifications would impact the feel of the area. The race could start at the Westroads and go over the Dodge overpass to 204th then turn south to Center, go up 144th to Dodge, then go under the overpass to the Westroads.Brad wrote:They should do it at 114th and Dodge, all that landscaping that has looked like heck since day one, is almost all dead now...Taco wrote:That would not be worth it for what could end up being a one-time deal.mr. omaha wrote:I wonder how the street modifications would impact the feel of the area. I'd say aksarben would be better anyway... Actually keep it as far away from West O as possible

Re: IndyCar Coming To Omaha?
Lots of hills and the elevated road way would be interesting. You could break it up, but I think that the overpass would make a unique part of the course.Athomsfere wrote:A 5 mile straightaway?bigredmed wrote:Brad wrote:Taco wrote:mr. omaha wrote: The race could start at the Westroads and go over the Dodge overpass to 204th then turn south to Center, go up 144th to Dodge, then go under the overpass to the Westroads.
