Former CU baseball player Pat Venditte

Post by the1wags »

Pat Venditte is in the (barf) Yankees farm system and sometimes draws interest with his ambidextrous pitching. I have my doubts of him making the bigs ever but ya never know. Here's a Yahoo sports story from today.

"Pat Venditte can see why he’s such a curiosity. It’s not everyday that a pitcher throws with both arms.

Venditte showed off his ambidextrous talents for the New York Yankees on Tuesday, giving up one run in 1 1-3 innings during a 9-6 split-squad loss to the Atlanta Braves."

Pat was on MLB network's MLB Tonight today.  Pretty much the usual stuff, he didn't do too bad in his first big league spring training game.  He's got a lot of work to do still though.

Last season he was in the Double AA All Star Game and had like a 1.4 ERA.  That combined with pitching for the big league club is a good sign for him.

Don't forget the potential Marketing side.

Jim Rome talked about Pat Venditte for a few seconds today.  He said that he wanted to see him and that "the show exceeded all expectations" and that it was "Creepy and Awesome all at the same time".

Single A, not AA. He started last year in low A and finished in high A.

It's a tossup right now if he'll be promoted to AA this year or not. If he does he still has a shot at the big leagues. If not, it's probably a sign he'll end up a career minor leaguer.

Oak vs Cubs: Venditte 2IP 2K

He was supposed to come in in the sixth inning, but the A's decided to put in another pitcher, it was interesting to hear the Cubs broadcasters being so disappointed. But he came in in the Eighth, and they really talked him up.

8th: RHP pop out to LF; LHP pop foul to RF; LHP 5-3 ground out (facing a switch hitter).
9th: RHP 5-3 ground out; LHP 2-2 swinging K; LHP 1-2 check swing K.

Yes! He entered in the 8th to pitch to the 2, 3, 4 hitters, and stayed in to pitch the 9th and close the game.
There are now 3 Omahans and 2 Lincolnites in The Show!

I am actually surprised it took this long to get called up, but I think he is going to have a very bright future.
