Over 20,000 sold prior to the Nelly announcement.  While some of the recent sales were more than likely from Nelly, it appears a sellout was immenent anwyay.

Tickets

Post by nebugeater »

Either the Scalpers feel there is a good market and are trying to stock up or there are plenty of people who should have bought sooner.  taking a quick look at Craigslist and there are a lot of posting looking for tickets and only one poor guy looking to give away a single season ticket if you will go to the games with him (really).

I too think the sellout was all but a done deal and it was set to happen anyway.

I believe all UFL games are on TV.  I think this one is on HDNET?  Some are on Versus.

I think your only chance of getting that locally is if you have DirecTV and the sports tier package.  I know this was the case a few years ago, but haven't shopped DirecTV in awhile.

Think local bars will show it? Also, I was confused. Earlier I was thinking the game was tonight.

That's Boston's version of FSN. Regional sports network that carries the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins. You'll have to get a Dish and a sports package.

Midtown Crossing wrote:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 24, 2010

Midtown Crossing offers Free Event Shuttle this Evening to Rosenblatt Stadium

Omaha, Neb. –  Midtown Crossing, Omaha’s unprecedented urban

development, is extending service tonight of its free event shuttle to

Rosenblatt Stadium as a convenient way to move traffic to and from the

Omaha Nighthawks season opener.

In addition to our normal shuttle service, Midtown Crossing is

offering an additional free shuttle which will operate service tonight to

Rosenblatt Stadium, at 15 minute intervals, beginning at 6 pm and

concluding one and a half hours after the game ends. The pick up and drop

off location for tonight’s game is at 31st and Farnam Streets and the

shuttle area in front of Rosenblatt Stadium.

Our normal event shuttle route which runs a continuous loop every 30

minutes includes the following pick-up/drop-off locations:

   ·    Midtown Crossing at Turner Park:, 31st and Farnam (Westbound,
north side of street)
   ·    Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St.
   ·    North Downtown/Stadium (Holiday Inn), 1420 Cuming St.
   ·    Qwest Center (Hilton Omaha), 1001 Cass St.
   ·    Old Market (Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce), 1301 Harney St.

“Tonight is a win-win for everyone,” said Molly Skold, marketing

director for East Campus Realty, LLC, the Mutual of Omaha subsidiary that

owns Midtown Crossing. “Guests can take advantage of Midtown Crossing’s

ample parking, and then shuttle to tonight’s exciting season opener. No

fighting for a space, no paying expensive parking fees.”      Midtown

Crossing at Turner Park is urban living redefined, a 15-acre, mixed-use

urban development in the heart of Omaha’s historic Midtown neighborhood.

Built around an expanded and revitalized Turner Park, the

million-square-foot development includes nearly 500 condominium and

apartment units as well as more than 220,000 square feet for restaurants,

retailers and entertainment venues.    Midtown Crossing offers convenient and

secure parking for more than 3,000 vehicles. Two parking garages are easily

accessible from 33rd, Farnam and Harney Streets. In both garages, the first

three hours are free, and visitors pay only $1 for each hour thereafter

(with a daily maximum fee of $6). Short-term (max. 2 hours) metered parking

is available on Farnam Street and within Turner Park, accessible from 31st

Avenue.

Great win for Omaha in its first game with 23,000+ in attendance.
And get this - the game highlights and Garcia's last drive made ESPN Sportscenter!

we were there, and it was AMAZING!!  You can't script that kind of a come-from-behind win, and the crowd was really into it!  I will be going back, and next year i'm getting season tickets.  First game, yes, but you can tell the product is definitely above a simple arena game.  Not to mention how sweet it is to have something like this in the area.  There were certain hiccups (ran out of money at ATMs, not enough beer guys, not enough beer at stands, parking logistics) but all-in-all, it was a blast.  I think that once they get in a rhythm on the field and behind the scenes, it will be the best in the league.

Way to go, Omaha: time for another beer.

New guy.  Agree with all you say.  I was there too and it was far beyond the expectations I had.  The Only thing that could have made the story book ending a small bit better would have been A green scoring.  Hopefully a few of the pictures I took are usable.  If they are I will post later.  As for going back.  I will three more time.  I bought season tickets.  Nothing that I saw tonight says I will not continue for years to come.

We were at the game too. It was a great time. Only thing we hated was getting in. I've never seen a stadium that packed before, you couldn't move around. Hate to say it, but I'm looking forward to the new one.

I heard a story today that I do not know if it is true or not - maybe someone else has heard it and can confirm it.
As you know the selection of the new UFL team came down to Omaha vs San Antonio.
The story goes - the execs went to both cities to ask the women of the cities one question:
"would you kick a field goal on fourth down or go for it?"
The women of San Antonio were wishy washy - well maybe...
The women of Omaha bombarded them with questions -
what is the score... fourth and how long... how far away... what part of the game...
and they were blown away by their responses.
Anyone heard the same story?

Sunday Countdown this morning has Kenny Mayne in Omaha doing one of his skits with Jeff Garcia, including highlights from the game.

So this is two weekends in a row Omaha and the Nighthawks have been featured prominently on ESPN.  I've literally seen no other mention of the league at all on ESPN or anything resembling national media.

Something is going on behind the scenes, methinks.

Promotion.

Either ESPN is planning on airing the UFL next year when the NFL is on strike, or the NFL is planning on taking a stake in the league at some point, or someone within the Nighthawks organization knows someone at ESPN.

This would be like the Salt Dogs getting exposure twice during ESPN's non-stop coverage of the AL East race.
