new restaurant in French Cafe space

Post by Ben »

The Mercers are rumored to be working with Paul Kulik of the Boiler Room for another locally sourced, sustainable style restaurant, but at a slightly lower price than Boiler Room.  Although no official announements have been made yet, apparently menu development and build out have already begun.

That is much too grand of a location to go unused.

This part is easily confirmed.  It's not exactly a secret, either.

A cheaper version of Boiler Room?  I hope it's true.

Is this to be called CAFE PROUST?

The updated La Buvette web page list Boiler Room and "Cafe Proust" in their "family".

Probably referencing Marcel Proust, French essayist/critic/author/food lover/Renaissance-man best known for his multi-volume tome "Remembrance of Things Past" about 100 years ago.  He was sort of a 'Calvin Trillin' type.  Anyway, there was a huge revival of his works in the 1980's.  You couldn't go to any neighborhood in D.C. back then without seeing "Proust lives" grafitti all over the place. And Nick, you'll be happy to know that he was also on 'our' team. BTW, I think the name is a bit pretentious, but I'm glad there's talk of using that space.
The pronunciation is "Proost".

lol I know Proust. I'm just excited for the influx of people who don't and enjoy asking stupid questions.

Someone is asking stupid questions if they don't know who Marcel Proust is?

Well, technically Streets is always judging you, but I meant hipsters in general.
