Howlin' Hounds

Post by Helpin' Hounds »

The Howlin' Hounds coffee shop on 16th & Jones (in the DCCC parking lot) has been shut down for two days. Apparently there's a "rogue" inspector working with a group from the county to get his building condemned so it can be razed for parking. Head inspector was contacted and claims no inspection was initiated from his office.

Apparently they'll be open again tomorrow. Two days without revenue of any kind kind be a disaster for any small business owner, so asking those of you that live, work, or play in the area stop in and buy a cup of coffee or tea or whatever you can to help out a little.

(Other than being a neighbor, I have no dog in this hunt.)

We're also dog friendly!

Description

We set out to create a 16th Street coffee shop for our neighbors and friends, including fuzzy, four-legged friends.

We wanted to create a space where everyone can feel welcome and spend time together.

To do that we have surrounded ourselves with the things we love...

ART- come see some great local and regional art. Shows rotate, so watch for events, or just come back often to see what's new. If you are an artist or art group, contact us about a show.

DOGS- yes, bring your pooch. Your best friend is always welcome at Howlin' Hounds (as long as they are on good behavior, of course) :)

EVENTS- we are a great unique space for events. From live music, Wedding Tea Receptions, Anniversary Parties, Birthdays, we are a great venue for public and private events.

We could all stop in and get coffee 5 times a day, and it wouldn't help a bit. There isn't much a small business with limited cash could do to stop a city inspector from forcing their coffee shop from closing its doors, simply by nit-picking the structure and forcing costly repairs, maybe include the health inspector to call for updates in the kitchen/serving facilities, dog friendly?, etc. They may even make up some problematic egress bulls*t forcing them to reconfigure entry/exits, occupancy, etc... anything.

Obviously there has to be some merit behind their critiques, but with an old structure like that, they will have a hay day.

If someone with some cash wants the building, they're already planning on it.
