Rose & Crown/Hyvee
I have nothing more then hear say to report here. I was talking with people who are familiar with owners of the Rose & Crown bar that Hyvee is looking at their area. With the whole area around Rose & Crown being bought up by Hyvee and that they're in the process of trying to acquire the Rose & Cown property.

That would be an odd place for a Hy-Vee...
I never understood why there really isnt any grocery stores downtown.

Too small of a place for a real Hy-Vee but they could stick one of those baby Hy-Vees in there.Silverspoon wrote:That would be an odd place for a Hy-Vee...

No! Don't put it there, that's one mile from my new apartment. I need it to be closer. Like 14th and California. yeah, that would be nice.

I read the downtown Des Monies Hyvee is 36,000 sq. ft. What would the ball park sq footage be for not just Rose & Crown but everything on S. 20th street be?
Re: Rose & Crown/Hyvee
Lot square footage of the bar is 1,947.
The lot to the south is 12,530sq ft.
The lot to the north is 28,122.
The total for that block is 42,599 sq ft.
Assuming they build a parking deck above or below the store itself, they can certainly fit a good size store there.

So.... Those buildings to the East are 44K and 25K sqft. Just saying....put the pharmacy with a drive thru in the SE parking lot. Large parking garage on the lot North of Rose & Crown.... I mean.... It's possible. Instead of actually shoe horning it into the west part of the block.
Re: Rose & Crown/Hyvee
So, pure speculation here, but wouldn't the children's museum make a perfect size lot for a grocery?
I'd love to see the children's museum, along with some sort of science museum down on the riverfront....

Indeed that Hyvee is actually going to buy up that entire block. Thank St.Mary's to Howard, 19-20th street. Most ideal situation they demolish and flatten the land in order to build and close out the alley.
Re: Rose & Crown/Hyvee
No way they'll demo the old white terra cotta clad Buick Building..... right?

This would be a nice place for a Hyvee, could spur some more positive growth in the area as well. The dude wrote:Indeed that Hyvee is actually going to buy up that entire block. It'd basically be a wrap for whatever old reminders of what that area use to be. On top of bridging the divide between the old market downtown area and all the way to 24th street downtown.
