Golden Corral on 90th closed
Anyone know why? Â It was always busy when I drove past for lunch or dinner times. Â I went there about 2-3 times a month and the food was decent for buffet food and the service was good as well. Â The sign on the door is hand written about being closed. Â Another unspoken corporate decision to close? Â Big piece of real estate to sell off though.
No idea whey it is closed, but its about 3 blocks from my house and still think it was a very odd location.
A buffet it one business that could really blame the loss of business on the casino.

Speaking very freely, quality at Golden Corral has slipped over the past few months, badly.Brad wrote:No idea whey it is closed, but its about 3 blocks from my house and still think it was a very odd location.
About a year ago our "breakfast club" moved from Harrah's to (the CB) Golden Corral because it was consistently good at the time and less than the casino. At the time, at least for breakfast, the place was busy to very busy. This is with three casino buffets within a few miles.A buffet it one business that could really blame the loss of business on the casino.
Lately it just hasn't been as tasty and there is never a line to get in, it seems anymore.
If the quality is good, a local non-casino buffet can do a good business, particularly if it's priced less than the casino buffets. The casino buffets seem to raise and lower prices on a whim.
Today we just voted, unanimously, to try moving it back to the casino for a while.
If things don't improve, I expect more Golden Corrals will close as well. Â :(
the Golden Corral in CB is doing quite well, they have a packed lot almost any day, especially from midafternoon on. Â It's less than 2 miles from any of the casinos... Â :? Â I'm thinking a relocation may be possible, i dont really see a buffet on 90th being too adversely affected by the buffet at any of the casinos (and i say that loosely ;) ), especially those who don't plan a trip to council bluffs from west/mid omaha anyway. Â I could be dead wrong though.
They started tearing down the old golden corral today. I noticed the other day someone was removing trees behind the building. Â Wonder if this is a larger project than just the GC lot?

I believe the first was the one on the 108th. "Junk Food Alley" between L and Q. IIRC it was first Duff's, then Choice, then Golden Corral, all of them having more or less the same MO of All You Can Gorge.Bosco55David wrote:Wasn't this the first Golden Corral to open in Omaha? I vaguely remember going there for the big opening back in the 90's.
I wonder if Cheddar's is taking a toll on this segment. Â My wife and I decided to try it... discovered it was overrun by the 'people of Walmart'. Â Provides them a 'cheesecake' atmosphere with cheap prices/simple to choose from menu (chicken friend steak featured of course)..
Shoot for the Moon... if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
