Old Dundee Bar & Grill

Rumor has it (the bartender told me), that the Old Dundee Bar & Grill will begin serving food again in the near future, as well as possibly create a beer garden out behind the building.

Awesome!  It was too bad they gave up food for smokes back in the day, but they know their clientele better than I do!

While I haven't seen confirmation of the beer garden, the serving of food was confirmed in this week's City Weekly dining section news and notes piece.

Blake Ursch / World-Herald staff writer wrote:The new bar, at 7024 Maple St., doesn’t have a name yet, but it will have the same staff, said Eric Franz, former bartender at the Old Dundee. Right now, the owner is shooting for an opening in early March.

That's a tougher location. I realize Mantra succeeds across the street, but they have a different clientele.

That's really tough. Not going to get the pub crawl croud that far west of the funeral home.

Well at least there was the smattering of Dundee on Dodge bars. Old Dundee, Pageturners, Goldbergs, and Varsity all kept busy.

They will need to hope for the carryover crowd from their old location.

It would be interesting if a development team came after some of the other retail buildings around there and got more aggressive about redeveloping if this area could stand on its own.

Could be Omaha's little version of Greenville in Dallas. It is a few disconnected retail/bar strips on the same street close enough to walk if you wanted, but far enough to each have their own strengths. Omaha's surrounding housing stock isn't nearly as strong as the stock sounding the street in Dallas so it isn't a perfect example.

Benson bars do have crawls. If they are going into that market, they should be organic to that area.

Every time I have driven by they have been fairly busy. One Saturday when I drove by I would even go as far to say they were packed. I think it is a really stupid name though. When did Benson become Dundee? I certainly wouldn't walk from the heart of Downtown Benson to this place. It's downhill and I sure as heck wouldn't want to walk back up said hill after consuming adult beverages.

Lots of walking on narrow and dark sidewalks just to get to the funeral home or the Waiting Room. I can see people just bypassing it.
