2011 Guardians of Freedom Airshow - Lincoln

Every 5 years, the airshow is held at Lincoln instead of Offutt.  This year is their year.  It will be held September 10th and 11th at the Lincoln Airport.  This happens to be the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001.  It has been said that this will be the biggest airshow in the country on that weekend (which doesnt sound like that big of a deal until you consider the 10yr anniversary it falls on).  They have the Blue Angels, Fifi (B29), an A-10 Demonstration and many other shows and static displays.

Best of all, admission is free.  I heard the last time this was held in Lincoln, they had 300,000 in attendance.  This year should be huge.  

If you come, be sure to stop by the Nebraska Army National Guard Aircraft Static display.  We will have all of the helicopters that we fly here in Nebraska on static display.  It will be a great opportunity to see the aircraft up close and talk to the pilots and crew about what their responsibilities are stateside and abroad.

Cool.  I was wondering why I haven't hear anything about the Offutt Show this year.  Another good thing about the Lincoln show is all the room north of the airport if you don't want to get in to the crowds and just watch the air part.

That was the perplexing part for me... I only recently discovered that THERE IS ALSO an airshow at Offutt this year.  Seems like it was thrown together at the last minute... as I usually watch their website pretty closely, just sort of came out of nowhere.

Granted what appears to be a smaller one... no Thunderbirds or Blue Angels.  I go more for the CAF/WWII birds anyway though.  I'll definitely be at both.

The Offutt air show has been on the calender for months.  I first looked at the web site with the dates probably in March.  Was looking at it when talking about it with some friends from Easter Iowa that are coming for it.  Lat time there was a show in Lincoln there was one in Omaha too I believe.

Last time there was a show in Lincoln... I was thinking it was orchestrated due to runway construction going on at Offutt.

yea, I think they still do the air show at offutt, but they "allow" the Lincoln show to steal the thunder every fifth year.  I heard last time lincoln did it in 06 they had 300,000 in attendance.  If they promote this right, they should really have a crowd.  

What I can say for sure is that they have quite the show put together.  

Ill be the guy wearing green near the blackhawks.

Went to the Guardians of Freedom Airshow in Lincoln on Saturday.  The LJS estimated that there were 150,000 at the show.  I do not think that was an overestimate.
