Breslow Ice Center a go?

Could it be???  I biked down on the salt creek levee trail (which is on far west end of the entire project) and just tons of work being done.  If the ice center is not going in then they are doing some extensive grading just for a parking lot.  Here's a few links indicating the center is a go for next spring...

Breslow Ice Center plans skating along
But more may be revealed Jan. 24, when the University of Nebraska Board of Regents is tentatively scheduled to look at a business plan and land agreement proposal for the Breslow Ice Center.

Next step is getting the university on board. The big issue for them is if it loses money, they are stuck with the losses.

Unanimously approved by the Regents. Breslow is a go.

I gave up following this debacle but did they decide two sheets or one? And is one supposed to have the arena seating for the Club team like in the original renderings?

Now approved by City Council. Starting off with one sheet, plan is if all goes well second one added in four years. I think the first one will be so busy they will be clamoring for the 2nd one almost immediately after it opens.

They're delaying the second sheet? Weird. Given the shortage of ice in Lincoln I thought that the second sheet would be an absolute from the start. Good to see this finally going forward though.

Yeah I think it's crazy on the 2nd sheet as well. Several city council members spoke on the need for it and the probability of it as well. Hal Daub spoke in favor of the 2nd sheet at the Regents meeting. At least this thing is a go finally. Very good for hockey in the state.

Ralston almost went with only one sheet as well. Very glad they didn't, it's in use a ton.

After 7 years in the making, ground has officially broken for the $11 million John Breslow Ice Hockey Center.

Saturday morning, UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman, Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler, and John Breslow himself, along with other UNL officials, spoke to the public about the highly anticipated ice hockey center.

It's been a long time coming for hockey and ice skating lovers around Lincoln.

The 54,000 square-foot, John Breslow Ice Hockey Center is located on the southwest corner of Haymarket Park, and is scheduled to be finished August 2015, a day Breslow has been waiting for, for years.

Went to the Nebraska basketball game Saturday night. Saw the construction area for this. It's definitely full speed ahead. It's right at the base of the newest pedestrian bridge that links Haymarket Park and PBA.

Breslow Center, a boon to Lincoln ice enthusiasts, opens Tuesday
Henry Cordes - World-Herald staff writer wrote:Until now, the only available indoor public skating ice in Lincoln has been in the Ice Box, a converted State Fair exposition building that is home to the Lincoln Stars junior hockey team. While the Ice Box ice has been available for public use, it always closed during the hot summer months.

This is long over due for Lincoln. Hoping they can add the second sheet in the next few years.

Nice to see the additional rinks popping up in the state.

I still can't believe Breslow and the Ice Box is the only ice in Lincoln?

Yeah, too bad they could not build the 2nd sheet right away at Breslow. Still with Breslow coming on-line, it doubles the amount of ice in Lincoln and they can now have ice in the summer.
