David Landis, head of the city's Urban Development Department, said details still are very preliminary, but the project as proposed would have underground parking, first-floor retail and several floors of rental housing targeted at students.
He said that, assuming Argent and the city can come to a deal, the company's goal would be to have the housing portion of the development open in time for the start of fall classes in 2015.

This one may actually get off the ground. Â The last attempt with a developer who "had trouble getting financing" was not a surprise...with the history.
It would be awesome to get a surface lot filled in. Â The last major surface lot we had filled in was the Embassy across from the YMCA which made a huge difference.
A second-story outdoor pool and indoor/outdoor exercise area are two amenities a developer hopes will differentiate a five-story student housing project planned for 10th and N streets.
Developers said the two-acre parking lot south of Gold's, a hub for Husker tailgaters, will be turned into a building with first-floor retail on all four sides. The aim will be a mix of small and large retail bays and less restaurant space.
The proposed complex, to be built on a parking lot south of the Gold's Building, will also have first-floor retail that could include a specialty grocery store.
A vote to approve the TIF bond is scheduled for the council's next meeting Jan. 6.
Sorry If this is buried in a thread elsewhere... I spent sometime in downtown Lincoln this weekend. No one could seem to tell me what was happening at 11th and N. There is a huge construction site.
EDIT - Merged with the existing thread
Live everyday to its fullest.. err.. just make sure your coffee cup is full. You should be good then.
LINCOLN, Neb.-- Construction crews are still on the scene of scaffolding that fell from a student housing building near 10th and M St.
It happened around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon.
10/11 reporter Joe McHale is on the scene. Police investigators have told him no one was seriously injured in the incident. But two people did have injuries. One was transported to the hospital.
The road is still closed.
Captain David Beggs of Lincoln Police recommends those going to the Fleetwood Mac concert tonight at Pinnacle Bank Arena find an alternate route.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue say it's unclear at this time exactly what caused the structure to fall. The 10/11 Weather team reports gusting winds of around 35 miles per hour in the city, but LFR said it's still speculation if wind caused the collapse.
Construction crews on scene said it could take a few hours to clear the mess, and a couple more weeks to get the structure back up again.
We'll bring you more updates as soon as they become available.
