I've lived in Lincoln on again/off again for 21 years, but there's something I don't get: You know how the street signs for Highway 2 are labeled "Nebraska Highway"? But we don't call it that. We just call it Highway 2. Why is this?
We don't refer to Cornhusker Highway as "Highway 6".
I've never understood the reason for it.

I think the main reason nobody distinguishes between the two is because there are never two highways with the same number next to each other. I'm pretty sure the designation is just who owns the highway anyway.

Cornhusker Highway is a US Highway and Highway 2 is a state highway.
