Lincoln, Neb. – The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the Guardians of Freedom Airshow will return to the city on May 7-8, 2016. The Guardians of Freedom Airshow is one of the Midwest’s premier aviation events with an established tradition and reputation. Partnering together, the Nebraska National Guard, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and the Lincoln Airport Authority will coordinate this family-friendly community event to offer new and unique performers, stunts, exhibits and displays. The Guardians of Freedom Airshow is expected to welcome over 250,000 people to Lincoln, Neb. for the two-day event.

Headlining the 2016 air show will be the Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy’s flight demonstration team. The Blue Angels have been entertaining spectators around the world for almost 70 years with an estimated 11 million people watching their performances at air shows each year.

In 2011, the Lincoln Guardians of Freedom Airshow was awarded with the Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award from the International Council of Air Shows, Inc. through the Nebraska Air National Guard's 155th Air Refueling Wing for setting a new standard of excellence in the planning and implementation its air show, while also considering the needs of and including the community.

The event will be held at the Lincoln Airport and detailed information about the performers and static displays will be released at a later date.

Wow, I guess that means Offutt won't have one that year. Any word if there is one at Offutt this year? I haven't heard anything so far and with the budget cuts, the airshows across the country still may be limited.

Lincoln has a show every five years I believe. In 2011, the last time that Lincoln had a show there was one in Omaha too. I was at both with my camera. They were maybe two weeks apart. The Omaha show was maybe a little smaller than most years but it was still a good show.

Nothing on the Offutt air show web site yet for this summer. I believe it was a little later than this when it was announced lat year.

2015 Offutt air show canceled because of construction work

The Offutt air show is off again.
Leaders of the 55th Wing said they have scrubbed the 2015 Defenders of Freedom Open House and Air Show that had been planned for Offutt Air Force Base in August, because construction work is scheduled this summer on the airfield.

The air show had been planned tentatively for the weekend of Aug. 29-30, said Maj. James Lee, the 55th Wing’s air show director, with the Air Force Thunderbirds as the expected headliners.
Fear not: 2016 will be ripe for flying spectacles again
If Nebraskans are short of air show options this year, the outlook for 2016 is a whole lot better — with shows expected in both Lincoln and Bellevue.
The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce recently announced that it will host the Guardians of Freedom Airshow at Lincoln Airpark on May 7 and 8, 2016.
The Navy Blue Angels flight team already has committed to be headline performers at the show, said Jaime Henning, the air show planner. Other acts have yet to be booked.

Blue Angels returning for 2017 Offutt air show

Nebraskans will have a chance to see both teams in 2016. The Blue Angels will appear at the Guardians of Freedom Airshow in Lincoln May 7-8, and the Thunderbirds will perform at the Offutt air show July 30-31. Those dates were announced a year ago.

The Navy’s Blue Angels precision flight team will make its second performance in four years at the Offutt Air Force Base’s Defenders of Freedom Open House and Air Show in 2017, the Navy announced Monday.
The performances are planned for July 1-2, 2017, the Navy said.

The Blue Angels’ last appearance at Offutt was in 2014, and the Thunderbirds’ was in 2010.

The show is returning for 2016 and 2017, but its future after that is uncertain because of a proposed reconstruction of Offutt’s sole runway that is expected to begin in late 2017.
