Omaha Stations
Is it just me or are there some Lincoln residents who prefer to watch the Omaha stations? I'm not sure why that is.

When I was attending college at UNL in the early 80's, it was common, from my observation, that most in Lincoln watched the Omaha TV stations.. And they were all available...mrsticka wrote:Is it just me or are there some Lincoln residents who prefer to watch the Omaha stations? I'm not sure why that is.

Truth be told, I had to look up the name and viola- I sure remember that guy. He had a straight on professional delivery style from what I remember..Linkin5 wrote:You didn't like Mel Mains?!Omaha Cowboy wrote:When I was attending college at UNL in the early 80's, it was common, from my observation, that most in Lincoln watched the Omaha TV stations.. I travel in-state a lot for work, and I watch TV stations from Omaha west to Kearney. There is definitely an agricultural focus seen on the stations in central Nebraska, and even on Channels 10/11. And they definitely spend more time on the weather than do the Omaha stations. Their weather graphics and whatnot also seem more sophisticated on the rural stations as compared with the Omaha stations. Much more straightforward (if overdone) coverage from the rural market stations.

Not to go too far off topic...
But I remember in the 60's, Omaha radio stations would announce the market...
Not the stock market, but the stock market... How many cows, pigs, where done in Omaha, Sioux City, Chicago...
I would follow them like sports scores, always rooting for Omaha over Chicago.
My how times of Omaha's identity has changed from an ag city...

Still hear the ag report every now and then on Omaha radio. The woman who does the report pronounces soy beans: "so-wee" beans.Coyote wrote:Not to go too far off topic...

Re: Omaha Stations
Lincoln has no NBC affiliate of its own. There's KSNB, but it isn't licensed to Lincoln and it's owned by 10/11.
If Lincoln did have its own official licensed station that was an NBC affiliate, I've wondered what its call sign would be. The best I could come up with was KLGI. L for Lincoln and GI for Grand Island. Or maybe it could be KGPL? GP=Great Plains, L=Lincoln. Who knows?
