The Capitol

I'm kind of surprised there's never been a topic about the most important building in Lincoln.

If there's one building that I find unique here in Lincoln, it's the capitol building. You can see it just about anywhere you go in the city. If you're on eastbound I-80 heading into Lincoln, you can see it. If you're north of the city driving south on 14th Street, you can see it. If you're on the south end of town on US 77 going north, you can see it.

It's the tallest building in Lincoln, so that's why, I guess.

About the sower statue on top, for a few years, I didn't even know what that was. It looked like it was dancing. Pretty silly, huh?

I've been up to the observation decks on the 14th floor. The views are incredible. Anyone else?

I thought there was an old thread about the renovation, but I can't find that right now.

I know there were several photo threads over the years. I have photographed it from both the ground and the helicopter.

I'm not sure if it still exists but there was a rule or law or whatever called the "Capitol City Vista" that meant that no building could be taller than the capitol. Everywhere in the city had to have a view of the capitol. Rather limiting but it got the job done.

Just think: If it was built an even 20 floors, it might be the tallest capitol building in the country.

Anyone recall the reasons that it was named an architectural wonder of the 20th century? Construction methodology?

And I suppose like ours, it can be seen anywhere you go in Baton Rouge? Even from 30 miles away?
