After the latest Miley disaster I will gladly take part in an angry mob to protest her coming to our lovely state...

We'll have to do that before the game also.
(Saturday's Husker's game will be an attendance record crowd)

Darn, I was hoping for a different aging star from the 1980s for the MAJOR announcement. He seems to like Nebraska, he's played at the CLC somewhere around 6.022 x 10^23 times.

6.022 x 10^23 = 4.  Excellent!  That should impress the ladies.

Thanks! Yes, that one concourse looks very tight! I don't think it is like that all the way around but I don't think I walked on that level so I'm not sure if it is like that the whole way around. I was planning on going back tomorrow when there is less people so I will take a better look then!

No problem! Haha I was worried I wouldn't make it to my night class but I made a last minute change to my schedule and decided to change my one of specializations so I no longer needed that class :D

Interesting, so it isn't just my bad eyes. I'll be curious to see how well this works with the people on that level.

They sure made that thing go UP UP UP. That seating up at the top you might need oxygen.

And I wonder what that structure made on concrete at the open end is for (the one that has Bryan Health(?) on it). Facilitating the future expansion?

That is funny...that was my exact comment while looking at that picture.
Overall very, very nice.  Reminds me of the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, but I think Lincoln did a much better job on this and the surrounding area (that and the fact that Des Moines has no major tenant in their building)  I can't wait to go there next year when Creighton plays Nebraska.

While I haven't been to all Big10 arenas it isnt hard to say that this is now the nicest arena in the big 10.  Outstanding shot.  Maybe you could get some from the outside?

Yes, those are the Omaha logo on some of the chocolates.   I read somwhere that it was a token of coporation between Lincoln and Omaha.

The sight lines are WAY better than DM.

Also, Bon Jovi just announced on twitter they are coming in October.  Not a band I like but I'm sure some will be excited.

THis wall is a tribute to a rather large Chocolate factory that was in the area at one time.   Russell Stover I beleive

EDIT

Here is a story I found about hwn it was in the planning stage

http://journalstar.com/special-section/ ... 698e6.html

Internationally known artist Donald Lipski will craft a giant box of chocolates as the major piece of artwork for the Pinnacle Bank Arena's south lobby.

The "Candy Box" will celebrate Lincoln's history as a candy manufacturing town, and individual candy pieces will be in shapes important to arena events and to the city's culture and history, according to the artist’s proposal.

Whether that's accurate with the original intent or not I don't know, but I can see where the idea was to have a "Nebraska" feel to the artwork.  Personally, I enjoy Omaha and have nothing but respect for the growth that area has seen over the last 15+ years.  Without the "push" from that I don't think Lincoln would have been so eager to try and move forward a bit.  I don't think the majority feel a need for Lincoln vs. Omaha...

Now that is some of Lincoln history that I did not know:
"During World War II, the building was leased to Russell Stover and by the 1950s they were Lincoln's second largest employer, making a quarter million pounds of candy a week."

So it has been dubbed 'the candy box' and if you look at each piece of chocolate you'll notice they have images of the states' strengths. You'll notice the state capitol, a diploma, a picture of president Lincoln which the city was named after. You will also notice a locomotive, because it used to be a rail yard and giving praise to UP; They really wanted to put O! on a number of the pieces to acknowledge Nebraska's largest and biggest economic engine in the state! Consider it less as a competition, but more as a collaboration for the state of Nebraska itself! Hope the information about the O! helped  :)

Lincoln got us a box of chocolates? That's nice of them. I am disappointed with the lack of roses, though. :(.

Wow, either I have not seen that rendering or I haven't been paying attention but I would guess they decided not to put that in.

Having been to a number of Big10 arenas PBA and Haymarket is going to really impress opposing teams and fans.  That is job 1 for the area.  There are still a fair amount of non Nebraska Big 10 people who snicker at Nebraska, when they give it any thought at all.  Things like "Are there many people there?", "Why would anyone want to live there?" and my favorite "I bet the kids don't even bother to pack when they graduate".  There is a real attitude from University of Michigan grads.  With them its either you are a Michigan grad or you couldn't get accepted and then it doesn't matter where you went because you aren't a Michigan grad.   I hope NU fills the PBA for Indiana, Michigan & Michigan State the first time they come to town.  Show 'em us hicks have game.

I noticed when driving west on I-80 near the 56th Street exit one sunny morning that the glimmer from the top of the arena created a bright light that shined all the way up to the interstate.  It certainly caught the attention of westbound motorists!

It kind of looks like a landing platform for UFO's. Damn. Lincoln beat us on the Intergalactic Airport as well!!

That's a surprisingly solid lineup. I wonder how many of these acts decided to go there instead of Omaha.

Random trivia - at his Omaha concert he had a lyric monitor next to his vocal monitors.
