Producers of a movie wanted to use the Big Red in their work. But last week, University of Nebraska-Lincoln officials said no to using the “N” or any other protected and trademarked images associated with the university or its storied football program.

More from the story:
“One of our jobs is to defend and build the image of the university — and ultimately Nebraska — and it’s appropriate to consider the effect of what appears to be a probable negative portrayal of the institution and the state,” said UNL spokeswoman Meg Lauerman.

She said the script depicts a cold, gray, snowy Nebraska, a land of “no opportunity.” The characters are troubled, she said, and generally want to leave for greener pastures.

The script depicts a cold, gray, snowy Nebraska,
a land of “no opportunity.”
The characters are troubled, she said,
and generally want to leave for greener pastures.
But then they hire a new head coach,
who brings in a new professional system,
and he hires the best assistant coaches available,
footballs are flying all over the place.

Everyone becomes excited again, optimism abounds,
eager prospects are brought in from around the country,
local kids want to walk on again, just to be a part of this promise,
spring arrives, and the sun rises once again, it is glorious!

Image

They reclaim a tradition from the past, a solid defensive scheme,
blitzes, sacks, intimidation, three and outs are the norm,
women hide their children's eyes from such destructive forces,
the blackshirts become the most feared unit around.

Image

It is an all-american story, the resurrection of a storied program,
that goes from a 5-6 season to win multiple national championships.
The local economy soars over retail sales of the NU image.

Success follows success. Volleyball Championships, Baseball Championships,
Gymnastic, Soccer, Tennis, and Bowling all win National Titles.
even the basketball team finally wins a game in the NCAA tournament.

Well - maybe that last one may have gone too far.
So - Collier resigns out of pressure from fans expectations,
Order Restored. All can now rest in peace!
Tears swell up in even the stoutest of men's eyes.
Oh - What a Story!!!

Go Big Red!

LOL!

When I took film classes at UNL, I knew probably half a dozen guys who were exactly like the writer of this movie. They all hated football in general and Nebraska in particular. One was a friend of mine. Around the time of the Lawrence Phillips controversy, he came to me all excited, saying "Dude, we gotta do a script together about how boring and sh*tty Nebraska is and how football is stupid and practically a religion here and how all the fans are a bunch of half-wits, yada yada yada." I said, "Nah."

Never thought a script like that would actually draw investments.

Good for UNL rejecting this. I cringe at the thought of it being shot in Manitoba. Nothing against Manitoba itself (Winnepeg looks like a great city), but I remember the result of "Boys Don't Cry" being shot elsewhere. Somebody in LA told me they saw the movie and thought the state looked drab and depressing. I said, yeah, well it was shot in Texas. If Nebraska is going to look like |expletive| on the big screen, I'd prefer it to be the real Nebraska looking like |expletive|. Not a stand-in |expletive| state.

Say yes to TL but no to this movie. They both make the school look bad.

Not so much, most of the jokes were on Tommy Lee and not on Nebraska. It made the professors and students look smart and the school look semi-fun. I would say Pearlmen (sp?) made the right choices.

I think I can honestly say that the Tommy Lee show made me want to transfer to UNL. That among a lot of other factors though, including friends and quality of life. Even though I didn't go through with it...I really think Pearlman made the right choice with the Tommy Lee show.

Well if you looked at TL’s UA and VD list you would never want to even come close to UNL. Plus if it makes you want to go there just because he’s a pop start.. well… EWWW shame on you.
I think they should have done this flick it seams like it would have been a very accurate portrayal.

Yeah Nebraska sucks as and UNL is a big part of it. What's so wrong with showing that to the world. I've got a movie I'm going to make. It's called "BacksarbeN". Care to guess what it's about. :)
