In case anyone missed this piece in Monday's W-H..It pretty much substantiates what we already know about the importance of the college student factor as it 'rises and falls' the viberancy of downtown Lincoln..
From the W-H piece:
'Paul Tuttle misses the college students. They invigorate Lincoln with their energy and excitement.
They also spend money, lots of it, at Tuttle's Bison Witches Bar and Deli, 1320 P St.
But in the summer, everything drags - especially Tuttle's business.
When about 14,000 University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Nebraska Wesleyan University students - the equivalent of the population of Scottsbluff - leave the city in May, Lincoln segues from bustling city to sleepy-time town.
Fewer pedestrians walk downtown sidewalks, traffic isn't as congested, and some say you can even find a parking space if you look hard enough.
No fraternity brothers are throwing footballs or Frisbees on front lawns, plenty of tables are available in the UNL Student Union, and the only customer at Valentino's wants a glass of ice water.'..
