Beutler wins mayor's office; Council tips to GOP
Lincoln Journal Star wrote:The votes are in, and Democratic former State Sen. Chris Beutler has won the mayor's office -- by 845 votes over Republican City Councilman Ken Svoboda.

In District 1, Doug Emery defeated LaRae Eifert 7,966 votes to 3,166 votes, or 71 to 28 percent, to claim a Council seat that opened up when incumbent Councilwoman Patte Newman said she would not run for re-election.

In District 2, incumbent Jon Camp defeated challenger Allan Abbott, the city’s former director of public works, 10,059 votes to 7,288 votes, or 58 to 42 percent.

In District 3, incumbent Jonathan Cook, a Democrat, was leading Republican challenger John Erickson, 6,630 votes to 4,598 votes, or 59 percent to 41 percent.

Spatz, Emery join Council; Cook, Camp retain seats
Lincoln Journal Star wrote:Challenger John Spatz unseated incumbent Annette McRoy late Tuesday in a City Council battle that remained too close to call until the final vote count.  Spatz will join retired postmaster Doug Emery as new members of the council.

Emery defeated small business owner LaRae Eifert to claim an open seat. Spatz’s victory over McRoy in  northwest Lincoln’s 4th District tipped the balance on the officially non-partisan council to a 4-3 Republican majority. McRoy’s a Democrat; Spatz is a Republican. Re-elected to the council were Jon Camp and Jonathan Cook, both easily winning their third terms.

I didn't even realize Lincoln was having elections.

But, YAY, Democrat mayors in Nebraska's two largest cities!

Spatz is a pretty middle of the road Republican, too.  Don't expect any nutso right wing rhetoric out of him.

Mayors don't really decide much on liberal/conservative, left/right issues.
