P.O. Pears is closing Sad day for sure

I worked there in the mid/late 90s. Â Met Ms. Big E there, as a matter of fact (she was also an employee).
Our annual golf outing got us kicked off of every golf course within a four hour radius. Â I still spread the gospel of the Jiffy Burger everywhere I go. Â We put the "X" in Xmas Party. Â Cooking on game days - I bet I turned 10,000 burgers while working there.
It will be missed.

You probably waited on me at some point then. I was at UNL from 1994 to 1998 and my apartment was at 9th and G Street, so not only was P.O. Pears the best place to watch Husker games, it was the closest for me, too.Big E wrote:I worked there in the mid/late 90s. Met Ms. Big E there, as a matter of fact (she was also an employee).
No more Starship. No more P.O. Pears. What's next? Digging up the Haymarket?

Probably waited on me as well, as Pears was our regular pre-game stop in the 90's. Â Eventually we got a parking spot closer to the stadium and switched to tailgating, but we still occasionally went to Pears. Â It will be missed...though I have to admit, when we stopped before the USC game, the food wasn't very good and the place wasn't very busy.

I know they were fine, the question always was why. Â I sure did my share of sampling in the day.Big E wrote:The burgers were fine.nebugeater wrote:So what was REALLY in those Burgers?
Let's just say sometimes it's dangerous to have a walk-in cooler in a kitchen that has direct access to a beer tap.

If you missed it Saturday night, you're SOL. Â I take the secrets of the Jiffy and world famous blue cheese dressing with me to my grave.
There are only a few more private events scheduled, including an employee reunion - which the building and a few employees may not survive. Â

There’s a chance P.O. Pears might remain a bar, but if it does, it will be without its signature sand volleyball courts.
Monte Froehlich, who owns real estate development company U.S. Property, has bought the P.O. Pears site and plans to redevelop the north portion into retail uses.
That means the sand volleyball courts, used by countless leagues since 1985, will be no more.
