Today the Nighthawks announced that Purify is no longer on the roster.  On what I saw there was no details to why.
Purify is again a Nighthawk.  He was cut the first time and has been resigned.

Wasn't he just the arena MVP or ROY or something?

Goalposts are up at TD Ameritrade Park.  It looks like they are not going to sod the infield, and will play on dirt.  That's somewhat unfortunate, but not unexpected considering the financial issues the league faces.

Based on Brad's last aerial photo of Rosenblatt, I swear they probably could reuse the sod they laid on the Rosenblatt infield.  That looks greener today than it did last fall.

Troy Smith has got to be the most forgettable Heisman trophy winner in the last 30 years.  I did a double take and had to think about it for a second when they said Heisman winner.

That is pretty funny considering he technically has the 2nd most points of any Heisman winner in history.  OJ is first and Bush ended up with 1 more, but obviously doesn't have the award anymore.

Steven Pivovar of the OWH said they are the only team in all of football with 2 Heisman winners on the same team.

I guess I would have to say pretty forgettable too.  I just don't remember him being a "special" player.  I don't remember thinking he was unstoppable.

Anyone hear how season ticket sales are or single game sales for the first game thur night?  There seems to be plenty of adds for selling tickets.  Since the game is two nights away, the first FB game in TDA and early in the season I would have thought this would have sold out already based on last year.

Game Day.

I just looked on ticket master...  Best Available for a pair of tickets is 50 yard line, row 8.  Doesn't sound good for a sell out...

Those are probably the best, most expensive seats, so I doubt those were in high demand.

I've heard they've sold over 13k season tickets, so I expect a crowd of 17k to 20k. Weather likely will hold down the walk-up crowd.

We really lost it for ourselves.  I don't think Shottenheimer put anything out there that was defensively overwhelming by any means.  We had some good goal line stands and broke up a couple passes.  Offensively though...3 ints, dropped snaps and penalties? They Husker'd themselves.

Looks like the UFL and the Omaha Knighthawks are done

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... title-gam/

The third — and likely final — UFL season arrived late.  And it’s leaving early. For this year and, possibly, for good.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the league will announce today that the balance of the 2011 regular season has been scuttled, and that the championship game will be played on Friday, October 21.

From Facebook.
Here is the preliminary UFL spin we are about to hear. UFL hopes to reach up to 8 teams for 2012, at least 6. This season was suspended to let two front runners play and save some money for 2012. Several new investors have interest in the UFL. Point is, we can only be sure of one thing, Destroyers vs Locos next Friday at the Plex.

Why?  I would be surprised to see anyone show up now?  Changing the date never helps.  Friday during the heart of High School Football season will hurt.  Finally the fact that everyone knows they will not be around next year isn't going to help either.

I will be across the street watching UNO Maverick Hockey!

It would be nice to see a sell out for their last game in Omaha, but I agree with you Brad, with all the other events going on (Maverick hockey, high school footballs final week) it would be hard to imagine many at the game.

I feel really bad for the Nighthawks! So much potential!

Lesson learned: Don't start a professional football league during a recession.

Minor league football is a tough sell at anytime, a recession is even worse.  It's just tough for them to compete with colleges and the NFL.

Unless the UFL can get their finances sorted out by next year, this very well could have been the last Nighthawks game.

There were some great moments in tonight's game. It really is unfortunate that the season's over and we didn't come away with a home win.  I truly hope that the Nighthawks will be back next season.

Was that a paid attendance? Although I saw a lot of people wandering around downtown, the parking lots seemed awfully empty considering there were both hockey and football going on.
