Dillards, Sears and Barnes & Noble are the major stores still left.  Still quite a few small stores, but it ain't purty.

We had breakfast at the new panara this morning.  When we were leaving I noticed steel going up on the south side of the lake.

That's a good pickup right there. Vitamin Shoppe is my favorite brick and mortar supplement store by far. The prices and selection are substantially better than GNC's |expletive|.

A boon to economy: More jobs
Shoppers in Council Bluffs soon will have a new stop for brand-name clothing, a T.J. Maxx at Metro Crossing.

The store opens Oct. 9. The 25,160-square-foot retail store will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on grand opening day. The store’s regular hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

The new store will add about 60 full- and part-time jobs to the area. . . .

According to LoopNet, the lot next to Hobby Lobby is going to be Ulta and another bay.  The lot next to First National Bank is now being graded.  It is to be SuperCuts, Starbucks, Orange Leaf Yogurt and 2 other bays.  Charming Charlie is going in next to TJMaxx and Firehouse Subs.  Only two undeveloped lots left.

Freddy’s now open at Metro Crossing
. . . Freddy’s Frozen Custards and Steakburgers opened its doors on Wednesday at 3607 Metro Drive in the Metro Crossing Shopping Center. This is Freddy’s first restaurant in Iowa, Breshears said.

“Freddy’s is the fifth-fastest growing chain in the nation,” he said. . . .

Firehouse Subs picks Bluffs for first Iowa/Nebraska location
A national sandwich chain recently opened its first location in the Iowa/Nebraska area, and the city chosen was Council Bluffs.

Firehouse Sub officials liked what they saw at the fast-growing Metro Crossing Shopping Center and opened their doors last Dec. 12 at 3815 Metro Drive across the road from the Target Store. . .

The company’s theme is based on the friendly, homey atmosphere one gets when visiting their local firehouse, Davis said. . .

There is firefighting equipment on display throughout the shop, plus a unique painting on a wall showing a modern local fire truck and two firefighters greeting the arrival of Lewis and Clark on their westward expedition in the early 1800s. . . .

The shop seats 50 indoors and 12 outdoors after the weather warm up, Davis said.

He predicted 10 shops would be opened in the metro area by 2020.

Smashburger is closed for business.  no more details other than that notice on the sign in the window.

could be that their burgers aren't worth $7-9 without the accompanying drink or fries.  or we can go with bad spot...or saturated burger market...

Glad to see that Pepperjax is expanding.  I still think that Runza should look into expanding in Iowa a little more.  I think that they only have two stores in the state.  I lived in eastern Iowa the past 3 years (Dubuque and Cedar Rapids) and people would always ask about Runza.

Open Wednesday

Went to the VIP Night for the new Council Bluffs Pepperjax tonight.  Another nice store that should do well.  Same as most of the other Pepperjax with a few updates.  Some of it is because its in a former Smashburger, but Pepperjax has also updated its look a bit too.

Located in Metro Crossing with all the other restaurants along the east side.
