30 Metropolitan (Former Mister C's)

Post by jessep28 »

KETV had a story tonight stating that the Caniglia's are in negotiations with a developer to redevelop the old Mister C's site. This is good news since the lot has sat vacant for close to 5 years, but it's sad to think that one of Omaha's storied restaurants might be torn down for a gas station or strip mall.

Well, what else do the developers in Omaha typically put in such a tract?

"Mixed use", maybe? :) "Northtown Crossing?" :) :)

Cunningham said the city is hopeful after recent talks with a redevelopment company that indicated they had commercial and retail plans for the site.

Owner of the property, Yano Caniglia, said he is still trying t sell the property for redevelopment, but declined to give specifics.

Caniglia's son, David Caniglia, said the site is secure and his family is keeping an eye on it.  He said he hopes to have more specifics about redeveloping the property in the next month.

I would be more in favor of a main-line shopping mall called NorthRoads! :) :)

You should also include something about a "Lake". There has to be a pond nearby doesn't there?

Maybe a "Ye Olde" at the beginning of it all?

I remember hearing something a couple years ago.  If I remember right, the rumor was that Buckey's was going to build a big C-Store.

That area SHOULD be good for some sort of development, being right across the street from the Fort Street Campus of Metro Community College.

According to Grow Omaha, it will be 3 to 4 stories, Mixed use (Ground level retail, upper floors residential). Being developed by White Lotus Development here in Omaha.

Wow that will be really great for that area. Actually surprised at a proposal like that.

Yeah, that sounds like a great project. I fully expected a strip mall.

http://www.omaha.com/article/20140213/M ... ege-campus
A new four-story commercial and residential building is planned for the former site of Mr. C's, a restaurant remembered fondly for its over-the-top, year-round Christmas motif and Italian Village murals.

Instead of yesteryear's steak and spaghetti, tenants of the new structure would be serving up medical care, coffee and bank accounts. They'd offer fitness programs, dry cleaning and sandwiches.

The upper three floors of the 30th and Fort Streets project proposed by developer White Lotus Group would be apartments that target students and staff of the neighboring Metropolitan Community College Fort Omaha campus.
As proposed, the building design would be contemporary. Commercial tenants would be on the ground level, with 75 apartments — a mix of two- and one-bedroom — on the top three floors.

Not sure about the dark gray, but other than that I think it looks really cool. Although with the wrong building materials, it could look awful.

Great for the area! I will reserve my judgement on the building until after its finished. There has been many times the actual building looks better than the rendering.

I was thinking the same thing. Renderings can look worse or (hopefully not) better than the final project itself. It is just a visual to get their project off the ground...

I don't think it looks bad at all. This is such good news for North O! Heck a North Downtown would kill for a project like this.

You sound overly sensitive to |expletive| poundings.

Cool? idk. Funny? Yes.

I hope the building turns out but even if its kinda ugly, getting a true mixed use building here would be fantastic for the area and for Omaha, as we cant seem to get them built outside of downtown, midtown and ak village much.
