This new addition will really cement Lauritzen Gardens as a 12 month a year attraction. It will be so nice to see greenery in the winter.

Wow I hope they find who did it and are able to get the pieces back...I was just looking at Brad's pictures of the models a few days ago. I think that is one of the most unique things about the train set up and the gardens.

from OWH

Lauritzen Gardens has recovered over half of the birdhouses and the model of Union Station that were stolen from an off-site storage unit.

Tips led to the return of 34 of the 51 birdhouses, which are used in the annual “Patriotic Perches” exhibit, said Mia Jenkins, marketing director.

I was really saddened to see these things stolen and am glad to see them recovered. I wonder if these would be covered under some type of insurance. Even so, I wonder about the possibility of having the original artist/company rebuild the structures. Would love to have Union Station restored and especially another Central High replica.

Judging from all the crime reports of break-ins at off-site storage facilities, apparently they aren't very safe places to store valuables.

On a happier note, Lauritzen Gardens will be offering four evenings this summer where both members (free of charge) and non members may walk the gardens with their dogs. Up to two leashed dogs per guest.

I can't seem to find my newsletter, but I suspect they are listed on the web site. I believe the first date is in late June and the final date is September 1.

I am not sure, when we went for Railroad Days, a lot of people, including myself were taking pictures.

I have taken my camera every single time I have been there. The just don't want people doing family photos and senior portraits in there.

I can't wait to go inside there, I just went a month ago and they were almost done. Going to Lauritzen is way more fun and relaxing than the zoo IMO.

We will be there this weekend for the opening festivities.
Between the Doorly Zoo, Lauritzen Gardens, Fontenelle Forest, Heartland Park and the Kerrey Bridge, there is an amazing array of options for outdoor activity along and near the riverfront in the Omaha area.

We were among the first to have access to the new conservatory. I was unbelievably impressed by the project, particularly with the incredible detail that went into every aspect of the finished product. This is a crown jewel that will have a positive impact on the quality of life in Omaha, and will add luster to Omaha's efforts at being a regional and even a national tourist attraction.
Here are some of my photos from today.

Just looked at there here and they sure looked washed out or over exposed compared to my home versions. Wounder what Flickr did to them or if it is just my work monitor.

Funny, when I process photos on our lap top and the look at them on another computer, they always look really really dark.

I just bought this for my main PC to make sure my prints are spot on.

Lauritzen Gardens' new conservatory has boosted visitors and membership
Attendance for the first seven months of this year reached nearly 141,000, up 63 percent compared with the same period last year. He said attendance is on track to top 200,000 for the first time in the botanical center’s history. Its visitors center opened 15 years ago
