Rumors floating around the Yahoo facilities is that closure is imminent. Yahoo recently switched all of its hiring from direct hiring to use of staffing agencies, and rumors began floating that closure could happen as early as Wednesday. Today, hundreds of boxes were brought into the offices, with no reason yet stated by management.

TRUE. Well, mostly true, I wasn't very clear in my original post; I meant just the Call-Center is shutting down, not the data center. All employees were informed by HR this morning that today is their last day.

Ok, I was referring to the Data Center. I thought the call center was at 144th and Dodge in the FNB building? I thought the LaVista Building was Data Center Only.

Ha, yeah my friend that worked there just did password resets, but he also has a very thick accent so I'm sure people thought they were calling overseas lol. Yahoo has/d 2 call centers here, both locations. I figured they were going to downsize a bit and combine them, but instead they just eliminated everyone at the La Vista site.

I received no fewer than three solicitations from Yahoo! recruiters to work in that call center in 2013. I'm glad that I ignored them. Although, it would have made me an internal candidate for other positions.

Wow, I thought companies generally gave more notice for layoffs.

I think First Data does the same thing, "Today is your last day".

I have heard of some companies that they call you in to a "meeting" where they lay you off and when you get back to your desk, its already been boxed up for you and they escort you to the door.

A relative of mine worked at First Data for years. Most if not all the layoffs every year or so were same day notice.

I've never heard of layoffs (especially in IT) working any other way... it's about security/access. You'll be notified, and be allowed a few minutes to pack up, under supervision... escorted to the door.

At InfoGroup, there was a period where the admin people hid termination dates in people's MS Exchange contact info, as a note to themselves. If you knew it was coming, and where to look... you could figure out if you were among those being cut (or who, of your colleagues, were being let go).
Shoot for the Moon... if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Looks like it was about a 9% cut in the Omaha Yahoo Workforce.
Janice Podsada / World-Herald staff writer wrote:he global technology firm, which employs about 350 people in the area, laid off 20 to 30 employees Tuesday at its La Vista customer service center near 108th Street and Giles Road

Sounds like an activist investor has their hands in Yahoo. Talks of selling off portions of the business, hope Omaha doesn't fall victim to the musical chairs.

They won't stop until they strip every business from us and sending them to Chicago or NYC. They're like locusts.

All they care about is their own bottom line. Doesn't matter how many jobs and people's lives that they are affecting.

Hopeful that their Omaha office isn't too crushed by these, but 20% of your workforce is a pretty substantial effect. Got to assume that at least a portion of it will happen here..
