They are back at it this morning, more trucks bringing in dirt and Yellow Steel moving it around.

Jay Noddle just confirmed, the first building on Zone 6 will have groundbreaking around Labor Day, 8-9 stories, 2 stories of retail, 6 stories of office space, and a 1500 stall parking garage, completed in 2018. No date set for the second office building, but the alley way between the two will have an 'old market' feel to it.

Yea! Something taller than 4 stories. As a resident of the Village I am getting bored with the sameness of it. Is it safe to assume the first building will be along 67th?

This was the last schematic we had going. I think it us safe to presume the first building would be along 67th.

We were surprised when he called in to Grow Omaha this morning. That was totally un-planned. Dennis was starting to tell him we didn't have enough time to get him on the air when Jeff said Jay who? He went to the front of the line!

Good to hear him say this and the rives edge project are both moving right along.

Aksarben is going to be a heck of a scene pretty soon. Continue to be wildly impressed with the quality of development.

They were still filling in surcharge today, from the Pacific St Parking Garage site.
But then I noticed this today from just south of the Baxter:

That is a heck of a lot of dirt they're moving for that new garage. I'd be a little nervous if I lived east of there. Hope we don't start getting a bunch of heavy rains this spring/ summer.

They have been putting a concrete wall in as they have dug down. Pretty cool to see the process.

They have been moving the dirt by the MUD building off and on for the past 2-3 weeks. I wonder how many truckloads of dirt have been hauled away between here and the Pacific St garage site.

All the earthmoving machinery has been removed from the block at 67th & Frances and all the trucks have stopped delivering dirt. The only thing going on over there now is the dirt blowing like mad. Hope it isn't going to be that way for very long.

Yeah, A/V is really dirty between that lot and the hill being taken out. Feel like my car needs washed every time I leave.

The dirt from the garage work is now going down to 1) MUDs complex. No idea why they are getting dirt when they have that hill of dirt. 2) the new Broadmoor Apartment site south of Center where the trailer court used to be. They are busy dong site prep at that location. The dirt from the MUD hill seems to be in the process of being hauled away by Pink Grading.

I love AkSarBen Village. It just keeps getting better & better, imo. What a satisfying, alluring area of town along Center, East of 72nd, we have now.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

Did anyone hear anything else about this?

I have heard from a reliable source that groundbreaking for the (former Tetrad) lot South of Aksarben Cinema and a East of Pac Life will be around April of 2017. They may have to deal with the DOL Fiduciary Rule, but so will others dealing in the financial services industry.

I also heard that Pac Life may be looking at renting space here...

So they just opened their new building a few years ago and they already want more space? Sheesh. Maybe they'll be back downtown before we know it. Or out to Boys Town.... :;):

I have also heard rumors that Pacific Life may be in need to rent some space. Sounds like they did a UP in building a building that they outgrew right after they moved in. Pacific Life has only had the complete Omaha staff in the building since late October/early November. (less than 6 months)

It was suggested that the rule is going to create a lot of short term uncertainty as companies try to adjust. As a result A friend thought that the next 12 - 36 months will be ripe for financial services companies to change or back out of plans.

Evidently the first floor of the PacLife bldg is going to have a Beacon Hills Bar & Grill. According to my husband there is a sign referencing beaconhills.com on the west end of the first floor.

OK, I found it....

The layout of the buildings doesn't really follow what's been done on most of the other AK blocks. They need to push the buildings out to the streets all the way around and hide the parking in the middle part of the block. Maybe the north and southeast sides of the block would still get buildings eventually.

Yes, that would be the former Waitt Plaza, Zone 6 schematic I made a few years ago to show what was being planned for that plot. Anything goes right now, save that it will have an 8-10 story building and a 1000+ car parking garage.

Now if HDR becomes the main tenant on the former Waitt Plaza, the height of the building will be in question.

If HDR ends up locating here it will make this whole cluster dropping out of downtown a lot more tolerable.
