I saw that earlier today, not quite sure how Iowa would be a 7 seed after losing 4 of their starting 5 and by far their best player.

The Jays received a commitment from Syracuse transfer Kaleb Joseph. He is a 6'3" PG that started as a freshman and then didn't play much last year. He was a top 50 recruit out of high school. He averaged 5.9 points and 3.8 assists in his freshman season.

He had a career-high 10 assists against Villanova during the 14-15 season.

He will have to sit one season, and will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.

Thought I just posted that...
One of the biggest factors in Joseph's decision was his strong relationship with Creighton assistant Preston Murphy. The other was the success the Bluejays had with point guard Maurice Watson, a Boston University transfer who averaged 14.2 points and 6.6 assists in his debut season in the Big East this year.

It appealed to Joseph to go to a school with a track record of helping transfers improve during their redshirt seasons. Creighton also had a need for a point guard with Watson set to graduate after the 2016-17 season and no heir apparent waiting in the wings.

Great to hear that the transfers think so highly of Creighton.

The talent is definitely starting to flow in, we just need to use it well, and use it consistently.

Wow, just watched a few videos of Kaleb, he looks pretty good. Sounds like his confidence was down at Syracuse but he was still a great teammate and participated with the bench. He has some great, flashy passes, similar to Mo Watson. Lets hope that the year of sitting out will bode well for him and he uses it to gain a better understanding of the Creighton program.

Going to have a lot of size on the wing going forward. In 2017 6'3" could be the shortest guy that sees the court.

I am continually surprised with the high-calibur guys Creighton has been scouting and offering lately. This is one of the most recent:

GERALD LIDDELL, 6'7" SF. Class of 2018.

http://www.hoopseen.com/news/general/20 ... -from-indy
Twelve separate programs have offered Liddell over the past year and several months and in Indianapolis, Duke dispatched two assistant coaches, while Creighton head coach Greg McDermott, Baylor, Texas A&M, and SMU were each in attendance for him.

When probed on who has done the best work with him to date, Liddell had a surprising answer. “I would have to say Creighton,” the Lone Star State native said. “Coach Lutz has really recruited me hard. They have a great coaching staff and I know Coach McDermott and how he has his son in the NBA.”

While things are far from complete here, look for the Blue Jays to fight it out with some of the upper echelon for one of the best and more productive guys around in the 2018 class.

They get the recruiting game and CU has a really fun style. They already have 2 top 50 guys in 2017 and it feels like they are going to land one of these elite top 20 guys in the next few years. Already right there on Brian Bowen for 2017 with the whos who of college basketball.

I think McDermott has the program on a great trajectory.

I agree. I think there was some talk that if the Jays don't make the tourney this next year and hopefully win a game, McDermott would be on the hot seat. I am not sure that this is the case anymore. With the recruiting efforts they had made as of late and showing that they can adapt to the Big East, I think he is here to stay for a while, which is fine by me. He is a great guy and the perfect individual to lead Creighton basketball. Of course, the move to the Big East is also helping to open up the recruitment to guys who never would have given us a look when in the Valley.

That was the mere thought I put out there, just based upon thoughts that the fanbase might be restless after a certain point without a tourney appearance (the "what have you done for me lately"). Recruiting like this definitely curbs anything that would pop up.

Call me crazy, but I think that's a game Creighton can definitely win.

Rutgers v Depaul could be entertaining just from how bad of basketball it could be.

Mo Watson withdrew from the NBA draft and will return to Creighton for his senior year. Not that we didn't all expect this.

Quote from the World Herald:
“I’ve really been thinking about this team and all the pieces we have coming back,” Watson said. “We have a chance to have a real special year. It’s time to get back to work.”

Not that he was getting a ton of minutes, but it will be interesting which route the Jays take. They could rely on freshman Davion Mintz a lot, have Tyler Clement get the minutes, or have a transfer step in. By the way, sounds like Doyle would have to sit out a year if he transfers in.

From ESPN:

20. Creighton Bluejays
Remember Marcus Foster? After a sensational freshman season, Foster so enraged Kansas State coach Bruce Weber (or vice versa, or both) as a sophomore that the idea of a third year in Manhattan was laughable. So Foster transferred. He landed at Creighton. Now he's eligible. After the Bluejays' surprising success a season ago -- when they quietly flirted with the NCAA tournament bubble throughout Big East play -- the addition of Foster's scoring talent demands attention.

Which players from top-25 teams will be reality TV stars?

Image
20. Justin Patton, Creighton Bluejays

The hometown hero, who was a redshirt last season, is the perfect rags-to-riches story. When he was signed by coach Greg McDermott, he was an unknown kid from Omaha. By the end of his senior year of high school, the 7-footer, who showcased some crazy skills with some mad highlights, was ranked No. 18 at his position. He's also, his coach said, a terrific jokester, with a big personality and an even bigger smile who would make for some entertaining TV. -- O'Neil

Outside of Longwood and Buffalo, and Truman State( is this an exhibition too?) It's not bad. Be curious to see what other teams are on that tourney.

Truman St is kinda funny b/c it is in the middle of BE play too. According to White and Blue Review DII schools don't count in any of the metrics so it wont drag down their RPI or SOS, but they get to count it as a W at the end of the year.

Buffalo won the MAC championship last season and have been to back to back NCAA tourney's so they are no slouch either.

It's not a great schedule but it's not a bad schedule either considering there isn't the usual SWAC or MEAC sub 300 RPI team on the schedule. Not a lot of name recognition outside of Wisconsin and ASU though.

Pretty sure that's part of the Paradise jam, can't do anything about that since we are in the tourney.

Big news for the Jays:

Kobe Paras from the Philippines, who originally committed to UCLA is now coming to Creighton and is eligible to play this season.

CREIGHTON BLUEJAYS LAND HIGHLY-REGARDED 2016 RECRUIT KOBE PARAS

He seems to be somewhat of a star in the Philippines. He has nearly 500,000 instagram followers. Should help to get Creighton some exposure.

He even dunked on Lebron James in an exhibition.

Good commit, unfortunately we also lost one in Hunter Thompson for 2016. That said I still think we come out ahead, this is a pretty dang good pickup.

Which Big East venue is the toughest place to win?
4. Creighton Bluejays: CenturyLink Center, opened in 2003

Let's start with travel. Omaha is not exactly in the traditional Big East footprint, and getting there isn't easy for anybody. The travel alone can put opponents at a disadvantage. Add to it the Creighton faithful, who helped the Bluejays rank 10th nationally in attendance last season. The only disadvantage? Nebraskans aren't mean like East Coasters. Creighton's most famous fan was the late Mary Ann Filippi, known as "The Dancing Grandma." Doesn't exactly inject terror, does it?

Fun fact: The arena hosted the U.S. Olympic Swimming trials in 2008, 2012 and 2016 despite not having a pool. Pool specialists converted the space into a temporary pool, and the Omaha Fire Department did the rest, spending upwards of 12 hours to fill the 1.7 million gallon pools using a nozzle attached to ladder trucks and nearby fire hydrants.

Four-star Pine Bluffs recruit Hunter Thompson verbally commits to Wyoming

Thompson, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound senior, had previously committed to Creighton but decommitted in July. Staying closer to home was the main motivation for reneging on his commitment to the Bluejays.

I'm glad for Wyoming. With their population, a potential talent like this does not come around very often.
