2016 CWS

Post by nebugeater »

The 2016 CWS will see a new primary NCAA contact again for the CWS in Omaha. The person that worked with Dennis Poppe and then replaced him is moving on. Damani Leech is leaving the NCAA for a potion with the NFL.

http://www.omaha.com/sports/cws/damani- ... 38814.html

Damani Leech, whose duties with the NCAA included directing the College World Series, is leaving collegiate athletics for the NFL.
Leech will resign as the NCAA’s managing director of championships and alliances at the end of the month to become the NFL’s vice president for media strategy and business development.
The NFL recruited Leech to fill the new senior level executive position.
Leech’s 17-year tenure at the NCAA included a dozen years of association with the CWS. He served a decade as CWS Director Dennis Poppe’s top lieutenant before taking over in 2014 when Poppe retired.
Leech said the decision to leave the NCAA was difficult.
“I think the CWS is positioned to grow even more,” Leech said. “By grow, I mean enhance the experience for the student-athletes, the teams and the fans. It’s a real, real special event.
“You hear people say that and it sounds cliché, but it really is. The time I’ve been with the NCAA, I’ve had a chance to spend time around a lot of different championship events. There really aren’t many things around that are like the College World Series.”
Leech said his superiors at the NCAA are well aware of that.
For the record  NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER    !!!!!!!

Sounds like the concert is going to move inside the stadium this year right before the fireworks. That is a good idea.

The day’s schedule (June 17):

Team Practices: 9:10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Team Autograph Sessions: Each team will sign autographs for 45 minutes beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of their respective practice.
Fan Fest: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. (Lot C and Mike Fahey Street.)
Opening Ceremonies: 8:45 – 10 p.m. Featuring X Ambassadors, team arrivals, the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and the fireworks finale.

Wow, Creighton pretty much choked that away with the last 2 weeks of the season.

When I saw this on the news the other night I thought that they were taking away the circulator. Glad to see that is not the case. I have never used the park and ride shuttles, but the circulator is great. You can park on the fringe of downtown and hop on the bus for $.25 and get dropped off right next to the stadium.

(4) Xavier sends (3) Washington home and has to win two from (2) UCSB to move on.
Arizona must win two from UL-Laf., the only two West Coast teams left in the field.

Arizona punches the first ticket to Omaha sending #6 National seed Miss St home,
scoring 3 in the eighth, 1 in the 9th and a bases loaded single in the 11th to come back from a 1-5 deficit.
It will be Arizona's 17th appearance in Omaha and their first since 2012 when they won it all.

I went to bed after the top of the 9th. LSU had so many chances. I thought they would pull this one out in front of the home crowd.

That's really cool they will be here. They started the season in KC. Some of their broadcasts were at the K even when no game so we will be fine with or without a Saturday game.

That is great news.
Baseball Tonight will set up in the left field concourse TD Ameritrade Park the home of college baseball champions since 2011. The city of Omaha has hosted the event since 1950. The three-day Baseball Tonight debut features host Adnan Virk, analysts Buster Olney and Keith Law, alongside a stacked bench of CWS game-analysts, all with personal CWS experience.

Three ESPN analysts making their CWS television debut:

Dallas Braden
Alex Cora
Eduardo Perez

Play-by-play: Jon Sciambi and Karl Ravech return for play by play. This is Sciambi’s fifth year calling games, and Ravech’s eighth.

LIVE K Zone debut: For a sixth straight year, and for the first time at the CWS, ESPN will use the Sports Emmy Award-winning K Zone technology live for every at bat. K Zone identifies the speed and location of a pitch in replays as well as tracks the path of the ball from the pitcher’s hand through the strike zone and numerically sequences pitches thrown.
