Based on the internet she is in Omaha and I don't know if she ever left... She came here from Dallas.

I'd agree. I don't think 6 or 7 feel the need to take a chance like 3 does who feels the need to do anything they can to close the gap between the other two. Whether or not 3's strategy of hiring reporters from larger markets to become anchors here is optimal or not remains to be seen. I'm still betting Wang was forced out and Cecchetto went back to San Diego for "family reasons" to be replaced by Nigrelli. They're 2 for 4 so far. Cohcchetto appears to be the prime anchor for the San Diego CBS affiliate now. That is one of the potential dangers in the KMTV approach in that when you hire talent from larger markets to come here and offer them an anchoring spot it likely is often a stepping stone. The benefit from the WOWT and KETV approach is that if you cultivate from within more likely than not an anchor by the time they reach that level will have family and community connections that keep them here. I'm not saying which way is right or wrong, just merely observing.
Oh okay. Now I remember. I got the Carol Wang lineage turned upside down.. The first time I saw her was when she was working in Dallas-Fort Worth as a lead reporter.. Then she came to the Big O as the 10pm co-anchor. Maybe she was forced out, but it's interesting that she remains in Omaha. I'd think she could have left here and went back to a top 20 TV market at least as a lead reporter..But then, those jobs don't grow on trees and no one is entitled to them.. I thought Wang did a nice job as the lead 10pm co anchor here. Perhaps she bolted for a better paying job locally like Brandi Petersen just did. Who knows for sure..

I agree that KMTV3 takes the riskier approach compared to 6 and 7. Dare I ask what the world is like over at KPTM42 these days? LOL...

Carol Wang is now the executive director of the Metro Omaha Medical Society and is also president of the Omaha Public Library Board of Trustees.

Blonde, young bobble heads aren't always the best choice as newscasters. But then who would want to watch Honey Boo Boo's mom at the anchor desk?

Time to promote Rusty to Chief! The Rusty Olympic commercial and the two ESPN Rusty commercials are great. There is no better time to promote him.
Ask Brother Brad and you shall receive.. From the W-H this afternoon-

"WOWT 6 News has promoted Rusty Lord to be the new leader of its weather team."...

Yes he is, as far as I know. I admittedly don't watch 6 news very often, but saw him on air a couple weeks ago..

We'd have definitely heard if he was gone...

I asked because WOWT is no longer on Time Warner's lineup here in Lincoln. So there's really no way I could know unless I looked it up.

I hope Time Warner restores both KMTV and WOWT on their lineup someday.

I believe that KMTV will be naming a new sports director on Monday. One of the sports people from 10/11 out of Lincoln.

Adam Krueger said goodbye to viewers at Lincoln’s KOLN on Saturday.

Krueger says he’s leaving to work as a sports director at a different station in Nebraska, but wouldn’t say which one. A source tells us Krueger is joining Omaha CBS affiliate KMTV. We asked KMTV about it, but haven’t heard back.

Until Neilsen pulls their heads out of the sand and "re-zones" the TV markets in Nebraska to reflect a combined Omaha/Lincoln market, it's unlikely the local cable company in Lincoln would carry the Omaha TV stations in their basic package..

Someone with more insight can elaborate on this.. I'd be interested in the commentary...

Somebody (did not see who) on KETV just had trouble pronouncing "amoeba", something I would think would be in the vocabulary of anyone who successfully passed a high school biology course. "A mo bee ah" was read on the air and a colleague quickly made the correction.

Sometimes you just don't believe that stuff like this could ever get on the air ... heard a few minutes ago when I was still getting ready:

"Seven Christian leaders, including a Priest and a Rabbi, ..."

I realize she was just reading off the TelePrompTer but still, it's obvious that the arts and crafts of newswriting and proofreading were sadly absent this morning.

Although, it has nothing to do with Omaha, something's rather odd with 10/11 here in Lincoln. They haven't done any of their news broadcasts in their regular studios recently. Instead, they're doing them with fake backgrounds on green screens.

All other news stations are still taping in actual studios, but 10/11 isn't. Don't ask me why. I don't know.

Are they updating their studio and this is a stop gap to free up the area? How long has it been going on?

Like nebugeater said that it a pretty dead give away that they are updating their studio. WOWT their sister station in Omaha did the exact same thing several years ago.

I remember when 10/11 updated their studio in the summer of 1995. While it was under construction, they reported live from the State Fair. Back when it was here in Lincoln. When they returned to the studio, I thought it looked pretty cool. I liked that they finally featured a picture of the Lincoln skyline on the backdrop. They had it for many years. Too bad they didn't do it when Mel Mains was still there. It would've been cool to see him report from that studio.

The gods of good fortune sent us Donald Trump to run the crooked and greedy Bushs and the Clintons out of Washington and now Obama sees that as a void that he and Michelle can fill. Obama will now become the new version of Bill Clinton running around giving 200,000 dollar speeches and promoting his wife to someday be president. It don't take no crystal ball to see that B.S. coming down the pike.

I don't think people yet realize how much they're going to miss the last 8 years. Classic example of "be careful what you wish for, you just might get it."
Goodbye low unemployment, low interest rates, low inflation, clean air, alternative energy development, protected wilderness, equal rights for all, healthcare for those who can't afford it, tariff-free international trade, respect from other nations...the list goes on.

Maybe Trump should just let the Obamas keep living in the Whitehouse, since he doesn't really want to live there and do the job anyway. He could use the help too. Trump will be much happier in his gilded penthouse apartment in Manhattan.
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings"
...and then they were gone.

I completely fail to see why this is an R or a D things... Its a parenting thing...

From the Article:
"Obamas are bucking the trend and staying put in Washington, D.C. And for good reason, their youngest daughter, Sasha, still has a few years left in high school and the family wants to avoid moving her to another school."
Which I think is a nice move by the Obama's for their Daughter. (Or as KMTV might call it, "classy" move by the Obama's)

Oh give it a freaking rest. Michelle doesn't ever want to be president anyways. And Trump is turning out to be much worse. He drained the swamp and filled it back up with |expletive|. Only someone who is delusional would think Trump is taking the country in the right direction based on what he's shown us since being elected.

If I remember, this is a thread about local Omaha TV news stations.. but I see how this discussion spiraled into political party debate #2,249,875.. sheesh..

Anywho, back to Omaha TV news- Does anyone find it just a bit comical that the "weather guessers" on all 3 networks, in addition to jr league KPTM Fox42, all seem woefully disappointed that the impending mid week "Snow Armageddon" is missing the Omaha metro and hitting south..

I mean all they can forecast is wind chills and "a few flurries" in the southern counties of the metro.. It's like they've all had their Birthday Cakes taken away from them..

Priceless :;): ...

I mean all they can forecast is wind chills and "a few flurries" in the southern counties of the metro.. It's like they've all had their Birthday Cakes taken away from them..
I don't know about all, Rusty took a lot of pride in telling everyone not to listen to one computer model 10 days before the storm...
Well, Rusty Lord is one guy who I actually like and is really good at his job.. Not surprising :) ..

I think I'll refine my comment (to be respectful)- Of the local on air meteorologists I've seen, they all seem WOEFULLY dissapointed :D ...

Forecasts are getting better, but I still don't necessarily trust anything more than 72 hours out. I figured that the snow event may miss Eastern Nebraska when predicted snowfall totals were sharply revised downward over the weekend.

I'm kinda surprised that they missed the chance last Saturday. It seems that for the first few snowstorms each year that they trip all over each other with the impending return of the Great Blizzard of 1888. :)

I agree that for the most part, the winter weather forecasts have gotten better. It's tricky to forecast "exactly" which area will get the most, least or no snow..

It's the propensity for some Omaha meteorologists to provide the "sky is falling" proclamations of "snow armoggeden" which annoys me the most..

And I've noticed those who engage in that sort of rhetoric stay pretty consistent with it throughout the cold weather months...

I was watching NTV over the lunch hour, and their meteorologist had a weather.gov forecast page up on the computer behind him. That made me chuckle a little.
