Trains and sports or anything that moves quickly I usually use TV that way I am sure the shutter speed doesn't go below a certain speed.

Other than that I have been really good at using only Manual, not that there is anything wrong with the others, but Manual makes me THINK before I shoot.

Here's the basics.

12.3MP (same as D300) sensor
Same 3" LCD as D300, D3, D700
Live View
Built in sensor cleaning
D-Lighting

AND... 720P HD movie mode. First DSLR to have a movie mode, but most likely not the last.

I take most of my pictures at Christian Teen events, and there is a lot of demand for short video clips

This forum has come a long ways since the days of my Sony Mavica and Nikon Coolpix 5700. I've been left in all of your dust... still using the 5700 for 'grab and go' use today... and an 'old' Nikon D70. I do have some decent lenses still though... left over from my wife's N90 days.

Speaking of which... if anyone wants to go 'retro'

... we've got a complete dark room setup, everything but chemicals, centered around a Beseler 23C Dual Dichro enlarger for $100.

I'm a youth leader and event photographer at my church, and the teens I work with all love the snot out of short video clips. It's all part of the youtube generation I guess. The D90 seems like it was completely built for my needs. lol

Since I've been part of this forum I've shot with....

Fuji S700
Canon 300D
Canon 20D
Canon 30D
Canon 5D
Nikon D200
Canon 400D

And so many different lenses I couldn't hope to remember them all.

...and I'm already looking to buy another camera.....

My credit score frowns upon these shananigans. I just love gear so much!

Do it soon. Your buyer will most likely be a film highschool or college student, and classes have started. They'll be looking for this stuff right now.

The small size is a benefit for some, hindrance for others. My Xti is almost too small, but I never complain about the weight!

Thanks for the feedback! I have little hands...so I really like the size (I checked it out at a local camera store downtown here). It's time for a new camera...and so I wanted to get something that takes great night skyline shots that's no more than $800. Would you guys say this is the right camera then?

BTW...does anyone have any good pictures of Council Bluffs that would work well in the resolution of 150x675 pixels? As some of you may know, absolutedsm.com is in the process of a serious overhaul. I need a good image that will work well in that size and represent Council Bluffs well in our CB City Gallery (like a great shot of Bayliss Park or something downtown). The pics we have, thanks to Jeff, simply don't work in that dimension. It's going to be used as a header for the CB gallery. If you have anything that could work, please let me know! I'd be grateful! :)

New Canon EOS 5D Tries to One-Up Nikon in Video

On Wednesday, Canon announced its first HD-video-capable DSLR, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, a response to the Nikon D90 announced last month.

The new 5D Mark II will retail for $2,600 for the body only and $3,499 with a 24-105mm lens.

Canon one-upped Nikon in one regard, however: the resolution of the stored video. Nikon's DSLR records HD in a 1,280 by 720 format; Canon's 5D Mark II will record video at 1,920 x 1,080. Both cameras capture video at 30 frames per second. The 5D Mark II was released after, and will eventually replace, the EOS 5D. . . .

I think both of my Nikon's have a video capability... I've never used. Of course I've never thought to shoot a photo with my cell phone either.

Kind of like discussion forums should be discussion forums and spell checkers should be spell checkers

I would never buy a video camera, but if my SLR had the ability, I would probably use it here and there. The only thing I would worry about is that some places will let you bring still cameras but not video.

Of course video recorders are small enough now (since I relented and traded in my betamax) to fit in a pocket.

We bought an HD Video Camera with an internal hard drive last winter. I haven't really used it though. I use the camera much more.

I picked up another camera last week... I went the other direction, After my last purchase a Canon 5D, it was time to get smaller so I bought a fuji Fine Pix. Its about the size of a cell phone but has 12MP, 3" LCD, and takes video. Its going to be a good addition to the arsenal.

With that said, I know nothing about video. So how do I take the video and save it as a file that I can use?

So it shoots videos in to AVI? Is that usable by youtube or better yet can it convert it to windows media player?

According to Microsoft's website, Windows media player supports .Avi:

Audio Visual Interleave (.avi)
Versions of Windows Media Player that support this file type:

• Windows Media Player 10
• Windows Media Player 11
Audio Video Interleave (AVI) is a special case of Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF). AVI is defined by Microsoft. The .avi file format is the most common format for audio and video data on a computer.

YouTube takes almost any kind of video for upload. .Avi will work fine.

I'm so close to buying a Nikon D90 to shoot photos and video. Anyone want to buy a used Canon 400D w/ Tamron 28-75 F2.8 Lens? I can throw in a 4 gig CF card too. (The Nikon takes SDHC cards).

I'm thinking I will have it by Christmas!

I'm looking forward to watching some new vids from Omaha from the photogs on this forum. Can't wait to see what we all come up with.

I think I have it figured out. I bought the upgrade to quicktime to shrink the videos to usable sizes and everything seems to be fine.

I would sell both my camera and my HD camcorder to buy this puppy. I hope we see a new lens for it, FF lenses are somewhat costly. It would be cool to offer a new FF kit 28-135 lens with updated optics.
