Cool, it won't be the first hotel on that "block". There is a Candlewood Inn at the end down by the church.

Hotel planned on West Dodge

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1 ... d=10382162
CHRISTINE LAUE WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:A four-story, 108-room hotel serving mostly business travelers is planned at the site of the former Guitars and Cadillacs nightclub near 108th Street and West Dodge Road.

Michael Earl, a Lund Co. broker who is a managing partner in the hotel, said construction should start in mid- to late-August on TownePlace Suites, an extended-stay hotel by Marriott. He projected an opening date of spring or summer 2009 for the $11.4 million project, which will be the first TownePlace Suites in Nebraska.

"I think there's a pent-up demand for this type of product in the area," Earl said. "When I was looking for the right developer, I had two other (hotel) developers interested in this location also."

He said that in the 1990s, land sought by hotels along West Dodge Road was not available for purchase.

"They wanted to get the office-type business, being close to I-680, because you have so much office in that immediate area," he said.

With that in mind, Earl bought the property at 10865 West Dodge Road in November 2005.

The 1978 building on the 1.9-acre site originally was home to a Stuart Anderson's Cattle Company restaurant and operated as several nightclubs — Bourbon Street, the Drink, Club 108 and most notably Guitars and Cadillacs, a country-themed club that closed in 2003 after filing for bankruptcy.

Sweet. I thought a TownPlace was supposed to go in next to the Hilton Garden Inn at 180th and Dodge too wasn't it? Or am I thinking of something else..

Far as I known, in the late July 2007, my High School reunion, Westside Class of 77, was the last social
gathering or party held at Club 108/Warehouse, the former Guitars and Cadillac building.

Here is my on-line photo album from the last party at Club 108/Warehouse:

Every Sunday morning, I drive pass the site of the new motel on the way to Christ Community Church. I noticed
about a month or two ago, the old Guitars and Cadillac building was gone. A few week later this sign appear:

It seems to be an odd place for hotel.

Last two Sundays on my way to Church, I notices the motel site has been cleared of vegetation and dirt has been moved around.

I've recently heard that Nico has been sold and will close after the first of the year. Any word on what is being built there? another hotel?

Interesting. While Nico had a better run than most, it still went the same way, hot new bar to closed in a relatively short time.

I thought Nico was doing pretty well for themselves. Why would they tear that down when, say, they could tear down the old Saturn showroon instead. Isn't it still vacant?

Yes it is. That area is doing great except that Saturn Dealership.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Ralf Marasco from CBS home own NICO? May be he is looking to turn it, he is a realitor.

Its 2.77 Acres. Nico is a large building for what it is with a good amount of parking. It might work, but its going to be a small office building. I wonder if they will use some kind of basement parking to help ease the tight space.

The office is 18000 sf and as of now they don't quite have enough parking. The site is marginally large enough.

I find it interesting that hotels are just now cropping up in this area. Granted there has been a few before, but its not a new part of town. It mus be the Proximity factor with the new freeway from 680 to Fremont almost complete.

Last Sunday on my way to Christ Community Church, I saw the north end of the TownePlace Suites’ First floor wood wall frame in place. I may take pictures later.

I saw that on my way home from work the other day. I assumed there would be steel framing or something.

This project looks much different than the last photo. The fourth floor and part of the roof are already on.

Not large by downtown standards, but heading east on the West Dodge Expressway, you can not miss this new building. They have already covered the roof with the black paper.

After reading that I stopped by and shot some photos yesterday. They also have the #24 DuPont wrap on the first floor and windows going in. I will get the photos up this weekend.

They did receive a little wind damage last Sunday. They lost a section of shingles off of the roof.

No kidding, it looks like they borrowed their design from the new hotel at Aksarben Village or that one which was proposed for the Old Market.
