New Devon Tower in OKC--20th Tallest in the Nation!

Wow! I think everyone was surprised at how tall the new Devon tower will be in Oklahoma City! 925 Feet Tall and nearly 2 million square feet!

According to the article, will be the 20Th tallest in the nation and only the cities of Chicago, New York, Atlanta, LA, Houston, Philadelphia, Cleveland and Seattle will have taller buildings! It has a cool looking design also:

I see the renderings now. This building is going to be a real gem for Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City certainly seems to be booming!

it's a nice, clean looking building, but my only concern for it is the same that i have for first national here: density around it. It's very tall, and from the looks of it, there isn't much around it as far as number of buildings and buildings of any height to compliment it. That's why I'm so anxious to see some developments happen here for Omaha! Density people! I think that if they did (2) 700' buildings, they'd squeeze out a little more square footage, but it'd look better against the skyline.

I would agree that one challenge the building might have is not sticking out like a sore thumb. It has to be close to twice the height of the next tallest building. Still a beautiful building nonetheless.

I was down in OKC earlier this week. Devon already has billboards up around town advertising this building. With energy the way it is. I can't imagine they won't build it. They certainly have the cash flow.

Nice enough looking structure. My map says it would be the tallest office building between MSP and DFW, not Denver. All cities are on the I-35 corridor.

Actually Devon Tower will be taller than anything in the DFW and Minneapolis areas, not to mention Denver.. Try 2nd tallest bldg between LA and Chicago (the JP Morgan Chase Tower in Houston barely beats it). OKC is turning into the next Charlotte. Construction cranes all over downtown. 10 years from now it will be an amazing place - it's already amazing how far DT OKC has come in the last 15 years. We've gone from desolate and dark to bustling and vibrant. When there are more residential units going up in Downtown than in any of the larger OKC suburbs, that's when you know they're doing something right.

Nice. Still catching up to Omaha's DT population though.

DT OKC: 3,000+
DTO: 8,000+

Here I'll save you some typing.

...but OKC has 3,000 units going up to Omaha's 1,500...

Ok assuming all those units built have 1.5 persons moving in...

DT OKC: 3,000 + 4,500= 7,500 people
DTO: 8,000 + 2,250= 10,500 people

BTW I went to your site last week for the first time in a long time. Lucky for you I couldn't post becuase you have TON of misinfo on your site about Omaha. It's very blatant too.

Also the video on your cities paper about DTO is from my house.

I don't know about slowing down. There never was a sharp bubble in OKC.. in fact home values are still appreciating in Central Oklahoma. Housing permits issued so far this year (as of October, the 10th month) in each suburb:

Haha thanks Admin. I really don't mind.. I think we're pretty enamored with each other (OKC with Omaha, and vice versa) but I would be a fool to not expect Omaha residents to boost their city over any other. I'm sure even Detroit boosters think their city is the World's finest.. :;):

You were both looking at different maps. Golden Eagle's map breaks down electoral results by precinct (there are several precincts in any given county, depending on the county's population). I believe precincts in Douglas County number in the hundreds (of registered voters). I suspect, D'Shawn, you were looking at county results. Most of the presidential election results, by county, were available a week or so after the election. I'm kind of a geek about election results and I study them and draw my own conclusions, etc.. Since I lived in Oklahoma City for a couple of years I did look at county results after the election---and you are right. Obama didn't take one county in Oklahoma, although according to Golden Eagle's map, he did take several precincts.

Yeah, I saw the county map, and I knew it's what you were talking about. But I didn't know if you noticed or not, but Tulsa County is very gerrymandered. They did that to keep Tulsa red, because Tulsa is actually a very liberal city. There are tensions between the Midtown liberals and the suburban conservatives. There aren't any tensions between OKC inner city liberals and those out in OKC's suburbs, but there is still a pretty good divide. Keep in mind that Oklahoma County only includes half of OKC's southside, none of the west suburbs, and ALL of the east suburbs and most of the north suburbs. Oklahoma County's population is 700,000 nonetheless. The City of OKC's population is 550,000. Obama would have actually won OKC, and he would have won Tulsa lopsidedly were Tulsa County not this gerrymandered:

How much of Tulsa County is even Tulsa? Not much. And they even lopped off Tulsa's inner NW side, which is mostly black. That's Osage County, which stretches to the Kansas border. It makes no sense.

Hi everyone! new news on the Devon tower, in Oklahoma City,The TIF was passed and the city of Oklahoma City has already passed Devon's and Hines proposal's.Earlier this year Devon bought out the Colcord hotel on the site of the new Devon tower!There are sign's around town already showing this building and I cant wait,it might be a tad tall for OKC right now but WTH!(54 st.-925 ft. tall)

i heard Omaha has another highrise going up thats almost 400ft. with the fnc over 600+ Omahas skyline is looking alot better! I'm hoping Oklahoma City's skyline after the Devon tower will spur on new highrise development!Can any1 please post Omahas list of tallest buildings on this post? thanx

Thanx Coyote! that was what I needed.The Woodmen building is taller than what I thought.FNC is shorter than the BOK tower in Tulsa, but man does the FNC look alot better!Maybe one of the best looking towers in the mid-west!Better than any tower here in Oklahoma,Maybe even Denver,K.C.!

Better than anything in Denver and Oklahoma for sure, although Oklahoma has a few Deco towers I love (which Omaha's FNC is a upset poor ultramodern interpretation of). Even THOUGH I've always been able to appreciate the BOK Tower being an exact 2/3 replica of the WTC. That's just special to me. Kansas City has some really awesome Deco scrapers. I like One KC Place, too. I would say a close second to Omaha's FNC.

Not that any of those hold a candle to Devon, but especially the historic Deco towers of KC, all are very special for their own community. OKC has already built a glut of decent-sized downtown skyscrapers (all of OKC's top 7 or so are relatively close in stature), but we never really put more of an identity into it unless you count fugly 70s fabulous. We're really just now coming into our own with the skyline. We'll have one we can be proud of, not one that looks like a generic comic book skyline over-utilizing the rectangular box form. OKC's skyline is just so dense. Density is good and all, but OKC's downtown is denser than any middle-sized city has a right to be. Neighborhoods just a mile from DT are nowhere near ideal density, yet the CBD itself is very compact. There needs to be more of a happy median around DT.

this building will be 908' tall not 925' as 1st reported,Devon will cut 4 floors(54 to 50) and 17 feet from the building,but will build the remaining square footage by the airport(WRWA)!This calculation sounds weird -17'= four floors?I dont think so!some sources say that the Devon tower will be around 850', which is still mamoth for a city of OKC's size!
