Considering the size of lot they want, they ain't moving back downtown...

FBI to get new Omaha building
The federal government wants a new FBI building in Omaha because of a lack of space and security at its Omaha offices.

Within six weeks, the federal government and FBI will choose a site where a private developer will erect the building.

The federal government ultimately will lease the building from the developer, just as the National Park Service leases its new riverfront building in Omaha.

Agreed..Most likely no DT location..Especially since they expressed in the W-H piece that they want the new location regressed from street traffic level for security reasons..

120th and L.
OMAHA, Neb. – The U.S. General Services Administration has secured an assignable purchase option agreement for property located at the northwest corner of 120th and L Streets for the construction of a new FBI office building.
The option agreement will give GSA up to nine acres of land at the location on which to build the FBI facility.

Let's see, on June 2nd they're going to secure a site within 6 weeks. On Sept. 22, they announce a site secured.

16 weeks....yep, that's about right for "6 weeks" of government time.

The multilevel building will give the FBI 112,337 square feet of space...
This will be a fairly substantial suburban office building, probably about the same size as that C & A building going up in the BOW business park. It will have quite a presence on that corner hill, hopefully help improve the appearance of the L Street corridor.

Yes.
Brincks said Avaya currently owns the property that will be acquired, but Magnum Development Corp. is about to acquire it.

I hope they don't close off I-Street for public use. I always take the I-Street exit from I-80 or 120th to I-Street instead of L Street to go to Home Depot, Wal-Mart or Sam's.

Senate OKs Naming Omaha FBI Office After Exon
KETV wrote:The U.S. Senate has approved naming the FBI's new Omaha field office in honor of Jim Exon, the former Nebraska governor and U.S. senator. The new FBI office is under construction. Officials said it will give the FBI better security and, at 112,000 square feet, will double the agents' space in Omaha.

In apparently keeping with some sort of requirement that all FBI buildings be butt ugly, the new one being built in Omaha nicely fits this code.

In order to provide a ridiculous amount of security (which they have never had or needed in Old Mill) this building pretty much took a big dump on what was a decent mixed use area.

I understand why companies rent/lease back offices in buildings they own. What is the advantage to the FBI of doing this here

I was wondering the same thing. Its not like they are getting a tax break or anything. The only thing I could come up with is that it could reduce any risk they would have as owners?

The Chinese might get the building if the United States defaulted on its credit obligations.

Maybe they already have it
