What Camera do you have?

I could be tempted but if I'm going to spend that much I'd just save up the extra for the 5DMKII.

Ya know, if I had 3K to spend on a 5DMKII body + grip, I'd just as soon buy a 7D w/grip for 2K (guessing) and put the extra 1K towards a 300mm f/4 IS. Sure, it's not a 2.8, but I can't afford another car right now, either.

I was perfectly fine with the 12mp FF 5D, I wouldn't know what to do with 21mp. I'm hoping the 7D comes in the 16mp range (the size of the old 1D sensor) with even better low light performance of the 5DII. Then do like Tuna and spend the extra cash on glass, but my dream lens is the TS-E 17mm F4L. That is wide angle nirvana!

It doesn't appear to be full frame?

Some key specs:

18-megapixel CMOS sensor

I have mixed feelings about it. It is APS-C, and the initial j-pegs look promising, but I'm going to wait and see if the new AF is worth it to upgrade. $1699 body only. The new 15-85 lens is $799, I like that range on a crop camera but it is about $300 more expensive than I thought.

I'll probably stick with what I have unless the reviews have something outstanding about it.

Not a camera, but I got a new camera bag.

Lowepro Flipside 400. Now I have some room to grow, my old pack was giving up. Scary thing when you have a filter fall out of your pack and reach back to find your camera hanging half outta the failing zipper.

Heh, my Tokina 12-24 fell out of my bag and dropped 3 feet on hard concrete--during a wedding shoot. Still worked!!

--never forgot to check and see if my bag was zipped up ever again. :shock:

That lowepro looks nice. What did that set you back, $80?

I dropped that 200mm lens I bought from you about a week after I bought it. About the middle of my back to the concrete on the 10th street bridge!

Buck 20. I'm liking it thus far, just got it yesterday and checked it out last night. Should be my back for the forseeable future. I have enough room to add a couple of decent sized pro type lenses, which is probably next on the wish list.

Funny story, I started doing these art shows to make money for more kick |expletive| lenses... I have spent so much money on the whole art show set up, I could have bought a kick |expletive| lens by now!

I have the Lowepro Fastpack 250 and love it. Plenty of room and easy to get things in and out of. I have read some reviews where these type of Lowepro bags have a higher than normal zipper fails but mine has no issues. Keep an eye on it.

.... and I bet your bag was well over the $80 guess above.

Speaking of dropping gear stories, I read about a guy who (don't ask how) accidentally kicked this tripod and attached D300 over the side of Yellowstone's "grand canyon" just north of the main falls. It tumbled down the rocks, etc and stopped a hundred feet down or so. I'd probably bawl. Dude tells the park service and figures he'll never see it again. A couple weeks later he gets a package containing his D300. It had sat outside for 4 days after tumbling down rock for 100+ ft and it rained heavily on it one night. Dude puts a new battery in it and it powered up! It wouldn't shoot pics because one of the buttons got hit and was stuck on. Beat to |expletive|, top LCD broke, etc. He sends it into Nikon, it comes back looking new and they charged him around $125 for "water damage", out of warranty. Nikon build quality for the win!

The only problem is it still shoots Nikon quality pics. It would have been a real miracle if he lost a D300 and received a Canon 5D.

You can drop a Canon down a cliff, although the best you could ever expect from the image quality thereafter is Nikon.

Seriously though, I first bought a Nikon because it felt better in hand than the comparable Canon. That was it. Now I'm just used to Nikon's ergonomics and superior output.

Funny thing is that I thought the Nikon grip felt more natural because it was wider. I guess we all know why some guys like Canon's little skinny grip. Must be used to smaller things in hand. :lafcry:
