144th Ida
It cant be a housing development,although east of it is.But from 140 to 144th it is graded and flat. Anyone in the know on this? Thanks

Celebrity Homes bought the land earlier this year.

Flat and unbelievably a housing development...sounds like Celebrity.

I live out in this area and all of the new development by Celebrity out there makes me want to puke. They've torn down so many trees and in general ruined a lot of "country views."

I agree that the country view is diminishing, but any builder would have done the same. It would be nice if they could keep the larger trees as parts of the lots, but that probably is not a plan when it comes to the development.

True, but Celebrity will build the exact same house model, 20 in a row and just change colors. Then they'll do the same thing again with a slightly more expensive model. It's exactly what they did by Standing Bear lake. Totally detracts from that area and ruins how nice it was out there.

That's only true of their town homes. Celebrity and Hearthstone both have policies against building the same single family model side by side.

Wasn't Omaha by Design supposed to impose some new guidelines pertaining to leaving the 'lay of the land' relatively intact... I take it that developers undid these provisions ?

Ok, Here is the Land in question. Looking from North East to South West. I shot this photo 10/24/2009

Remember this was farm ground no a forest so I would say they did a fairly good job at keeping the trees and the original contour of the land.

The triangular piece on the top middle had a quite a few trees in it that they ripped out.

I am betting the people who built the house on the top middle (reddish vegetation in front and behind the house wish they had bought more land around them. They are being squeezed by the cookie cutters to the west.

They have kept most of the mature trees in LaVista's more recent housing developments. It is all up to what the local community wants to enforce as their standards. Standards? We don't have no stinkin' standards in Omaha!

I know that Hearthstone is trying to preserve more trees and create less of an impact on the environment.

They ripped out a lot of trees from the triangle shaped land between Ida and Military and they also did so along Military on the north side by 144th where a few remain.

Not sure what constitutes a townhome (dual home?) vs a house but the area north of Standing Bear lake is house after house, identical in design other than color, one after another.

Usually the town homes are very similar, some even all the same colors. You pay a bunch of fees but most of the maintenance is taken care of like the lawn, snow removal etc.
