I think the stadium will have a little better angle on the skyline than TD Ameritrade... don't you think? :)

I have driven by a few times in the last few weeks and just in the last few days they have started working again. In fact this AM ( Sunday) there was some work going on. They moved a lot of snow and look to be working on the infrastructure coming to the park as well as prep for footings as mentioned in the story.

Progress at the site of Sarpy County's planned 6,000-seat baseball stadium for the Omaha Royals has run afoul of Nebraska's harsh winter.

In early December, contractors stopped excavation work on the $26 million project west of Papillion. Snow and subzero temperatures dashed the county's ambitious plans to finish the grading, pour concrete and have the stadium seating bowl completed by Christmas.

Three major snowstorms, separated by bone-chilling cold, hit in just a few weeks. Snow drifted into mounds around dozens of pieces of construction equipment that sat idle along Nebraska Highway 370. Contractors, already working under a tight schedule, lost more than a month.

His firm's agreement calls for the stadium to be built by March 15, 2011, about a month before the start of the Royals' 2011 baseball season.

Despite the unusually harsh winter, architects, contractors, representatives of the minor league baseball club and county officials say the stadium will be done on time.

No contingency plans are being discussed. If contractors cannot meet their deadlines, no fallback plans exist for a Rosenblatt Stadium encore

In Sarpy County, Meradith hopes to have his ballpark's final design plans by late February. After that, the county and the public will have a better sense of the construction schedule.

Last week's relative warm-up allowed contractors to build a new access road connecting the 31-acre site to Nebraska Highway 370. Limited excavation and grading work has resumed.

Workers hope to pour the stadium's concrete footings around Jan. 25. The steel framing would go up next, perhaps in March.

There is also a lot of precast in the new downtown stadium and all of the exterior walls at Midtown Crossing are precast. Heck the last 2 parking garages I have seen in Omaha have been all precast.

Maybe I misinterpreted what "precast buildings" meant. I know that precast panels are frequently used in construction (and TD Ameritrade Park is using precast for the seating), but I took "precast buildings" meant the entire building was precast.

I don't mind the use of prefab either. I think it's a very economical way to build.

However, it annoys me that in the 21st century, they haven't developed the technology to make the precast brick panels seamless... I hate that you can see the outline of the panels. This really bothers me on buildings like those of Midtown Crossing.

They do have seamless precast walls of all types. However, I think they are much more expensive and tougher to work with.

Went by the site yesterday. Took me all of 12 minutes to go from there to I-680 and Dodge.

Just for comparison, it takes 11 minutes to go from I-680 and Dodge to Rosenblatt. Just sayin'...

Josh, don't you know that nothing worthwhile in Omaha is supported by anyone within 10 or less miles from it? All of metro Omaha's attractions are entirely supported by people living west of 120th St.

That is our biggest challenge right now. With our boys being 1, 4 & 7, it may be a couple years. However, we talked about getting 2 sets so we can mix it up with the kids and go to some games with just us.

It's on the ORoyals web site; look for their ticket guide (it may mention group tickets). Season tickets start at around $561 IIRC going upwards.

I think the Royals will be far more successful in a minor league park. With the economic downturn the growth in the SW part of the metro has slowed(as it has city wide) but to think the area around the ballpark won't grow significantly around it would be crazy. The deal they were offered by MECA flat out could not work. They're like UNO hockey, they would be in a facility that dwarfed their crowds.

I drove by last night. Its still really hard to see from 370. Martie Cordaro said on last week's Grow Omaha that they would be removing the hill between the ballpark and 370 soon.
