I flew over in the chopper on saturday. The top of the seating area is in, the bottom seating area is in, looks like they are getting ready to forum the seating area. The first building is going up. It was not precast rather block. The 3 dugouts and all the field walls are in.

Yes, there is a fan dugout that groups can rent. Kansas city has 4 now.

I guess I never think of those as dugouts. Thought there was may some new game forming with three teams playing at once! The one's in KC are pretty neat. Some night at first pitch maybe KC should play the game with players from the "fan" dugout rather than the team dugout!

Looking from the third base concourse to the first base side. You can see the dugout, then the seats will be on the dirt bank and then the block going up is on the concourse.

"Sarpy County now projects spending nearly $31.4 million for its new minor league baseball stadium.

County Administrator Mark Wayne updated the County Board on Tuesday about the latest cost estimates for the 6,000-seat home of the Omaha Royals, now under construction west of Papillion.

The original estimate for the entire project was $26 million."

It's actually seen a lot of progress since you took that photo. I noticed that home plate actually looks pretty well straight at South Port.

If you notice the right field home run fence, it actually curves in toward the infield rather than bending out like nearly every baseball stadium in the world. I believe there is only one other park in professional baseball in the U.S. that has a similar home run fence. I assume it is just some minor league baseball gimmick.

Big week for ballparks. The Omaha Royals will unveil images and visuals of their new Sarpy County stadium on Wednesday. O-Royals G.M. Martie Cordaro said the amenities will include an outdoor basketball court, a kids area with carousel, a whiffle ball field, an on-field suite for fans to rent on a nightly basis, an outdoor bar, etc., etc.
Sounds amazing. I hope that there's room for a baseball diamond.

Ballpark Dimensions, Details Unveiled

The ballpark's dimensions will be 315 feet down the right field line, 310 feet to left, and 402 feet (like the local area code) to straightaway center. But the outfield walls will curve and bend to provide plenty of suspense on drives to the gap and fly balls near the wall.

Players will enter the field via clubhouses located behind left field and the bullpens will be behind the center field fence.

Fans will find plenty of amenities when they enter the ballpark. The 6,282 permanent seats will put them close to the field and the action. Fans down the left field line will be able to watch the action from seats that are angled toward the infield. And, some fans will be able to view the game from a dugout located just below those seats. In the left field corner, about 450 fans will be able to watch from a home run porch.

A pedestrian walkway will encircle the stadium. Total capacity, with berm-seating and standing-room areas will be about 8,600.

Construction is on schedule for the ballpark, and the field is expected to be sodded by September. The Royals will begin play in their new home in April, 2011.

After looking at the animations / sketches posted here (a couple of posts up), I've got a couple of questions.

Didn't the Royals want to build their own park so they could build a whole bunch of "Family Friendly" amenities - ie slides, picnic areas, etc? While the ballpark looks like a nice place, I don't see any of that here. Sure, there's the outfield berm, and home run porch seating, but that's about it from what I can tell besides the standard ballpark seats.

I truly do wish them luck, and understand their reasoning for not wanting to play downtown, but where did these amenities go? Were they forced out of the plans due to budget constraints?

“It will be the most family-friendly venue in the metro area, if not the state,” said Royals General Manager Martie Cordaro.

Among the stadium's planned features:
A giant whiffle ball field, a basketball court, a carousel and a 6,500-square-foot children's area with inflatables.

Wide-open concourses, a year-round gift shop and about 1,800 parking spaces.

The ballpark will have 6,282 fixed seats, with a total capacity of more than 8,600 including the berm, picnic and standing-room-only areas.

Fifteen suites, a dozen of which will be sold on a per-season basis. Three will be available nightly.

Five private party areas, a private club and bar for suiteholders and club-seat holders and a public watering hole dubbed the Scoreboard Bar.
“We like to think this is the ballpark of the 21st century,” Meradith said. “We've had a lot of fun designing it. It's got its bells and whistles. This is really a special site. It's a great site to grow into. It will be the heart of a multi-use development.” Roger Langpaul, a Des Moines real estate developer, donated the 31-acre site to the county, hoping to attract new hotels, a 4,500-seat ice arena, water parks, restaurants, fitness centers, retail and residential development to the surrounding land he owns.
