When they relocated the Hy Vee from what is not the Amazing Pizza Machine to Oak View, they both a Stonybrook store and Oak View. They decided on Oak View and sold their land to Super Saver. They have regretted it ever since.

Actually this is a little bit incorrect. In 1992 or 1993 HyVee built the OakView Store to replace the one they had at 144th and U street. It is now a Carpet store or something like that. It was a lateral move from U Street to OakView and I think there was a week or two timeframe when both were open.

They did not own the land behind the store that Supersaver is now located on. I worked there during that time and it was never mentioned as a possible site when they chose Oakview.

I don't see how anyone would want to put a mega grocery store in at 144th and Stonybrook. That intersection, while improved since the expansion, is a cluster of traffic that would only become unimaginable if there was a grocery built there, with the Millard South traffic, the Hwy 50 traffic and the neighborhood traffic that converges right there everyday.

You're right, I was wrong about the location, but I am absolutely not wrong about the Oak View move. I got this information from 2 extremely reliable sources.

West Omaha would gain another Hy-Vee Supermarket and gas station under plans submitted to the city.

The company proposes to build at the northeast corner of 180th and Pacific Streets.

The development would sit on about 18 acres and have several locations for smaller retail stores, restaurants and services such as banking.

Omaha attorney Dennis Hogan, representing Hy-Vee, said the project would be similar to others that the West Des Moines-based company has built in Omaha.

It would be the 11th Hy-Vee Supermarket in Omaha.

Hy-Vee spokeswoman Chris Friesleben said a construction timeline had not been established.

The earliest construction could begin is 2010, and the project would take almost a year to build. That would mean a 2011 opening date.

They announced this HyVee first, but they are going to build the other Store first? They might save some money if they build them almost simultaneously. Soon as a trade finishes one, them move over to the next. It would make sense if they had them both open before the Oakview store closes.

You're assuming that Hy-Vee is actually going to build this store, which was originally announced nearly 15 years ago. Maybe they are waiting for the new Amusement Park to get built. (Or any other number of projects that have been repeated announced, delayed, then fade into oblivion without anything actually happening.)

This cannot be fairly compared to a "Minarded" catagory project. Hyvee is actively developing stores in the area, both new and remodeled. They continue to evaluate their options and priorities their capital and while they have plans this location has not made the cut yet. Show me one "Minarded" project in the area that is something other than a idea and maybe a web site that never gets updated.

If we're considering Townsend's Wall Street Tower "minarded", then the 180th & Pacific Hy-Vee is the about as "minarded" as you'll get shy of any amusement park. At least Townsend has a sales center and did a small amount of site preparation at Wall Street. And Townsend has an active project underway at the Brandeis Building. http://www.atthebrandeis.com/

HyVee has an established track record of building numerous stores through the metro, they own the property they're planning to develop... I have little doubt that they've simply been waiting for the right time in this economy to being construction of YET ANOTHER location. I'd be more skeptical if it were Kroger... which has a track record of closing locations.

Townsend obviously has no money, outside of a paltry amount required to maintain their sales office ... the project itself depends on external financing (just as Minard's projects did)... which may or may not come through.

There's simply no comparison between the question of this HyVee location being built vs Wallstreet Tower.

While you may be correct it was originally announced in the 90's and I was not living here at that time that seems a bit early to me. Wouldn't that have really be out in the country then?

In the early 90's, yes. But in the middle 90's, that whole area began to explode. I used to live out at 172nd and Pacific, and in 1993, it was nothing but bean fields looking west. Then Shadow Ridge Country Club began to be developed, as well as the Lakeside complex. Pacific Springs also opened up in the middle 90's as well.

When it was announced, it probably was a bit out on the edge of town...but there also were lots of homes 1 mile to the east, and at the time I moved out there, the closest grocery store was the Albertsons at 144th & Center. Pretty much everything east of 168th between Dodge and Center was developed in the 80's, so there were a lot of houses that would have really used a grocery store out that direction.

There's a difference between delaying implementation of a plan for strategic reasons (while at the same time, you're actively building other locations around the metro)... versus delaying implementation for financial ones (you're a dreamer and don't have the money to move forward... that's Minarded ).

All I know is that this is a "Project Never Built"... I understand what you are saying, but at least Townsend has invested a few million dollars (in demolition and construction of a sales office). The only investment Hy-Vee has made in 180th & Pacific is a lawn mower.

Drove by this weekend, and the corn is looking good at 180th & Pacific. So if Hy-Vee is actually ready to do something here, it won't be until November at the earliest.

That seems like it would be about the right time. I would guess Major construction on the Council Bluffs HyVee and the 132 and Dodge HyVee should be wrapping up by then and the Fort Street HyVee should be completely finished by then.

I am assuming they are waiting for the corn to be harvested. It passed the City Council back in May.

While it doesn't mention the 180th street store, with six new stores and and Omaha City Council approval, things are looking good.

The Grow Omaha guys were on KFAB this morning, and the 180th & Pacific location was brought up again. Trenton sounded optimistic that this store would be built eventually, but certainly didn't indicate that anything was imminent.

They started grading on Thursday (3-17). The silt fences are up and they were surveying the land to grade by the middle school. They also had quite the tree crew out cutting down trees on the parameter of the site and taking down many of the trees around the old house on the corner. Looks like the pigs are flying.

The store address is listed on their web site now. I do not remember seeing it before but it may have been there for a while. I look at their add on line ever once in a while and I think it would have jumped out when selecting the store ad location like it did today.

If you travel in the area of 180th and Pacific Streets, you’ve probably noticed construction of a long-planned Hy-Vee Supermarket.

The store in Pacific Springs Park is listed on the company’s website as Omaha #11. Ruth Comer, spokeswoman for the West Des Moines-based company, said the store at 1000 S. 178th St. is expected to open “late in the year.”

I drove by there two Saturdays ago and dirt had been moved and it looked like they were taking down the house on the corner piece by piece.

The house is completely gone and the hill was flattened. It was weird, my mom and I drove by sunday and it was completely intact then when I went by on tuesday it was completely gone along with the hill with no trace.

It is under way. They have some walls going up already and more dirt work is being done. I live just south of 177th and pacific and I am looking forward to it.

I live off of 180th & dodge and have to go to 192nd and pacific or to 168th & dodge. it'll fill a void. The building is quickly going up.

There is a HyVee gas in the plans, but not sure if they have that permitted already or are focusing on the main store only for now.
