Tropix Bar & Grill - 168th & Maple

Does anyone know what is going on with the Tropix Bar location off of 168th? It was Heidelbergs, which then closed (I believe they were evicted), then Tropix closed and I last heard that the place was going to be renamed "Foursomes" with sort of golf theme and play.

I don't know what they are doing, but that place is way too big. A lot of bars have 40-50 people in them and they have a nice crowd. In that place 40-50 people feels like it's nearly empty. Similar to what it felt like going to Royals games at Rosenblatt.

Also, it's hard to get to unless you happen to be heading North on 168th.

I agree, very goofy way to get in. We have to approach from the East on Maple to get there and end up having to go past and turnaround at SuperTarget. Also that space is huge, need to do something different inside it is cavernous.

When they stayed smoking (being outside of Omaha) and Tanner's (156th and Maple) went smoke free, we quit going to Heidelberg's and never got back in the habit when they were forced to go smoke free.

I recently heard that a gas station/convenience store was looking into building on the corner of 168th & Maple (next to Tropix (the Maple St. Side) and that there would be a turning lane built into 168th for those going south..however, I know a traffic engineer that tells me that it is highly unlikely that a turning lane would be added for southbound traffic to be able to take a left turn into the strip mall where Tropix (now foursomes) and Big Wheels to Butterflies exists because it would be too close to the Maple Street/168th Street intersection and it's possible that at any given time, too many cars could get held up into the turning lane and could clog traffic to the main intersection....usually the city engineers like to keep a greater distance off of a main intersection prior to the start of a left-bound turn lane. We'll see what happens. I do remember the owners of Heidelbergs telling me when they were hurting for business that they blamed it greatly on the lack of a turning lane, which they were told would eventually be built as it was "in the plan"

We'll see what happens. I still haven't seen a name change on the building yet (Tropix)

The sign for Tropics has now been removed, and you see glimpses of a few people going in and out of the building but no major work being done yet. The Foursome rumor seems to be the current plan for the building.

As for the turning lane, “come on man." As a business owner why would you leave it to chance or the city that a turning lane is going to be created for an empty strip mall. I live two blocks from this area and in four years, nothing has been done to create better traffic flow from an engineering standpoint. The same can be said for the owners/managers of both restaurants; "if you build it, they will come" does not apply. You have to give your potential customers more credit about where they choose to dine.

They are putting up the new signage at the old Tropics today, FOURSOMES.

There will eventually be access from Bedford. This corner should not have jumped the gun before securing that access.
