Plattsmouth gains from Hy-Vee strategy

The Plattsmouth store will anchor the Plattsmouth Plaza shopping center on the west side of town next to U.S. Highway 75 at Oak Hill Road. Hosch said projections are for the total number of employees to be about 100, with about 25 of those being full time.

Ruth Comer, a spokeswoman for the West Des Moines-based grocery chain, said Tuesday that the store makes sense for the Cass County community because Hy-Vee is already a strong brand name in the area. The location about 20 miles south of Omaha also fits company goals for good visibility and high traffic volume.

The $13 million, 45,000-square-foot store in Plattsmouth is scheduled to open in November 2013

This will be a nice shot in the arm to Plattsmouth and Cass County.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the population of Plattsmouth a year ago was somewhere over the 7,000 mark. Since then, it has lost somewhere between 600-700 people. The town definitely needs more jobs. (Not that this will create new jobs since they will just force the other two stores to close their doors)

Not sure about that. Seems that a lot of people in Plattsmouth already drive to the Bakers in Bellevue.
