Healthful remake of Stockyards

http://www.omaha.com/article/20101118/N ... stockyards
Cindy Gonzalez WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:A historic South Omaha site once home to the world's largest livestock market is set to undergo yet another transformation to meet the needs of the day.

Two new four-story buildings — for health care services and senior citizen housing — will rise next year at the old Omaha Stockyards site near 30th and L Streets, thanks to an infusion of funds from the new federal health care law.

The buildings are part of an expansion of OneWorld Community Health Centers, which already leases the three lower floors of the historic Livestock Exchange Building.

The pair of brick structures will stand in the shadows of the 11-story Exchange Building, which also contains several floors of affordable family housing and two ballrooms.

Great infill.

It would be nice if this fit into some sort of framework plan for the Stockyards site. Oh well, it's a step in the right direction.

The modern new buildings will look really cool next to the classic stockyards building. Nice!

The right side building looks strikingly similar to another rendering I've seen before...

I just drove by there at noon checking on a different project for work. Looked like it was full speed ahead on construction.

These two are at least 2 floors above the ground, hard to tell exactly from L.

Looks like the southern building is up to 4 floors and the northern one up to 3.

OneWorld's campus is growing.

https://www.oneworldomaha.org/news/all- ... ce-center/
OneWorld leaders, along with state and local stakeholders and dignitaries, broke ground today on a new building at the organization’s Livestock Exchange Campus in South Omaha. The OneWorld Health Care Workforce Development Center will help health care providers close essential service gaps — an effort applauded by community members in attendance for the morning ceremony.

The groundbreaking took place just east of the trio of buildings that now make up the main OneWorld campus. The new three-story, 29,000-square-foot building will house a healthcare workforce training center, expanded behavioral health services, a child development center and a micro-unit for epidemic or pandemic responses.

A historic 11-story structure in South Omaha — a landmark that was once the epicenter of the world’s largest livestock and meatpacking market — turns a century old this month.

On Thursday, the Livestock Exchange Building’s current anchor tenant, OneWorld Community Health Centers, celebrates the milestone with an open house and display of historical materials.

Public tours will be offered of the structure at 4920 S. 30th St., which also houses affordable apartments and a top floor ballroom that harkens to a heyday of hosting lavish corporate and industry festivities for farmers, executives and community members.
