Hopefully when Shick and Nick leave they take all their GOD AWEFUL sound effects with them. That would be the best upgrade they can make.

I can' hardly listen to the afternoon show anymore because the intern on that show is always playing the Stupid |expletive| Sound effects now.

Good content makes for great shows, not stupid sound effects!

Really glad Jason Peter is going to be on in the morning, I never listen in the morning. Severe and Bishop should be a solid USC crew.

Hearing that Jason Peter was let go from 1620, can't say I'm too upset.

For what it is worth the 1620 web site now just lists Gary Sharp as the 7 to 11 host. I am sure it listed them both before. I just looked. The afternoon show listed both hosts.

I'll never be happy about someone losing their job but I can definitely see why a change may be made. There is only so many rhetorical questions and stuttering rambles I can deal with a radio host, it gets really old after a while.

Last Wednesday Shatel wrote an article on him:

Shatel: Ex-Huskers on the air aim to tell it like it is
“If coach Osborne came to me and said something, I could back off a little bit. But he hasn't.

“Look, some people don't like to hear the truth. If they want to ban me from the stadium, they can ban me from the stadium. I have to be myself.”

I never had a problem with his criticism of the program, I actually enjoyed it because it was upfront and honest. I did have a problem with his whiny voice, rhetorical questions, and stuttering.

I gotta admit at first I wasn't too thrilled about the change in lineup but Benning is a really good co-host. Everytime I listen he brings an interesting perspective to things and breaks things down very well. Also, he has told some pretty good stories from the 90's without throwing it in your face or relating every topic to his time playing football a'la Jason Peter.

I like him, too. He really knows his |expletive|, which is more than can be said for a lot of local sports talk. Michael Grey is also good, and I appreciate the fact that he's not a Husker fan, so you get the outside perspective.

I like Michael Grey as well, he is very quick witted and entertaining. Nobody has still been able to answer for me though why Petey Mac left the show (although I wasn't too heartbroken about that he was pretty brutal).

I'm pretty sure Petey Mac went the way of Jason Peter. I know the Creighton fan base could not stand him when he hosted the pre game show, he turned one pre game show against Northwestern into Big 10 football talk, he was horrible.

REALLY horrible. I remember one time he was giving his take on why Creighton bball was doing well and stated "In one word, swag" and then pretty much ended his synopsis from there. That basically summed up his total sports knowledge, he can tell you the scores of games and names on the jerseys.

Damon Benning is a huge upgrade on 1620. I didn't mind Jason Peter that much, but Benning is a major acquisition. And let's be honest, both are MUCH better than the two clowns that previously held the timeslot.

1620 just posted that they will be announcing "Exciting news for the station....and nobody is getting fired." at 2pm tomorrow.

Wonder if they are going to join the CBS Sports Radio Network?

They technically kinda already are I think, when Rome is they have all the CBS Sports Radio ads running and CBS' sports desk. Of course at night it goes back to Fox Sports so who knows.

OOPS - That should have been me. Apparently I edited Coyotes post yesterday and not quoted it... Sorry.

That's what I was thinking when they said it. It wouldn't surprise me if CBS was pushing hard for all the Rome Affiliates to also go with CBS.

1620 The Zone Named Flagship Station For Creighton Men's Basketball
Go Creighton wrote:Omaha’s No. 1 home for local sports has secured a three-year deal to air the radio broadcasts for Creighton Men’s Basketball, as the Bluejays transition to the BIG EAST Conference. Under the agreement 1620 The Zone will air the play-by-play broadcast and all ancillary sports coverage for the team, beginning with the upcoming 2013-14 campaign.

Apparently Creighton will buy the time slots from NRG just like they did with JBG and then sell their own advertising slots to sponsors.

So now the question is - what will 590 have to offer for local sports?

Or will 590 drop Iowa sports and just run ESPN programming 24x7 on autopilot. I'm not sure what the heck Journal Broadcasting is doing with that frequency, other than squander it. They dropped the Royals and Chiefs, now they've lost Creighton. They've apparently given up on local talk.

Dropped the Chiefs? They are still listed for the 2013 season as an Affiliate On the Chiefs Radio Network web site.

The previous host left to take a job in Seattle and Journal is looking for a replacement.

The Chiefs have been MIA on 590 for the last two or three seasons. And yes, Michael Gray left for Seattle over two months ago...but most stations find interim hosts pretty quickly, if only to keep the timeslot warm, because people will assume that 590 isn't interested in local talk otherwise.

The new unsportsman like conduct with Bishop and Severe is brutal to listen to, huge downgrade from Kugler. I started to listen to Grey's show every day and liked it, good for him he got a better job, but bad for sports talk in Omaha.
