It looks like the Sarpy County Tourism office that is at Nebraska Crossing has a new home being prepaired for them. There is a bay of the new building near Walmart at Hwy 370 / I80 that is being finished out. From a small sign on the window for contractors it indicates that it is for this office. This is about the middle bay in the strip next to the Arby's.

Per a story earlier this week on WOWT everythin gwill be vacent by Jan 1.

http://www.wowt.com/news/headlines/Gret ... ml?ref=811
There's plenty of parking at Nebraska Crossing, the Gretna Outlet Mall. And soon, there will be no reason to be here. The remaining tenants have been told to move out.

The signs say it all. Posted on the door of the Jerky Factory in Gretna, is a sign that tells customers that they will be closing. Their last day open for business is set for December 29th.

Tyler Schmale works as a cashier and he says tenants don't know much. But what they do know is something is in the works.

The same goes for workers at The Bargain Mart down the way.

Anyone else get this strange feeling that we'll be seeing just an open dirt field here for the next three or so years?

If Slosburg somehow ends up being the developer, it'll be an empty field for a decade or more.

I'm not holding my breath!

So much for having an outlet mall in the neighborhood.

Oh well ...

Wow, I can't believe their plans changed so dramatically without a single peep until now.

I really hope it happens. If they plan to get it open by fall, hopefully we will see development start pretty quickly after demo.

But does anybody else think that this next fall seems like an unrealistic completion date?

If there will be several buildings in the project, maybe they will get the first one open by October and the subsequent sections will become available over the next 60-90 days.

I've worked on enough construction projects to know that is the only way anything is finished by October. No chance that entire development is done by October.

Went out by Nebraska Crossing today for their last day with any business's still open. (As if it has looked like anything is open for a while) American Fencing is putting up a chain link fence around the property that does not already have fences. It looks like there will be a gate right past the turn in to McDonalds that will limit the area to construction traffic.

Weather was not conducive to taking pictures but I took a few anyway. Here is a sample.

Image
Nebraska Crossing -111b by nebugeater, on Flickr

Many of the store fronts look like this.

Image
Nebraska Crossing -105 by nebugeater, on Flickr

A VERY accurate mape of the current layout of stores at Nebraska Crossing

Image
Nebraska Crossing -104 by nebugeater, on Flickr

A lot of commuter parking has taken place here. Bet the lot at the 370 exit off of I 80 will get a lot busier!

Fencing going up to the top of the hill and along Hwy 6

Now they can add NO STORES, NO SHOPPING, NO VISITORS and on and on.....

Image

Probably the one thing still going on at the Mall SCRAPPIN!!!!

Ready and waiting

http://www.omaha.com/article/20130118/M ... ay-to-shop

New anouncments

Polo Ralph Lauren,
Ann Taylor,
Loft, J.Crew,
Levi's,
American Eagle Outfitters,
Skechers,
Wilsons Leather,
Helzberg Diamonds,
Kay Jewelers,
Gymboree,
Carter's,
OshKosh,
Old Farmer's Almanac,
Maurices's,
Famous Footwear,
Justice,
dressbarn,
Scooter's Coffee

From earlier this year

Gap,
Banana Republic,
Brooks Brothers,
Chico's,
White House Black Market,
Lane Bryant

Expect more to be anounced in Feb with a goal of 60 new to market stores

Still stating an October opening. That seems overly agressive to say the least.

From the OWH

When completed in late October, the new $87 million outlet mall at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Nebraska Highways 6 and 31 will have more than 60 tenants in 350,000 square feet and offer customers a fully “wired” shopping experience.

The existing 170,000-square-foot mall, built in 1993, is being readied for demolition. The replacement, which will be new from the ground up, is expected to open Oct. 31.

In May, the mall's developers — Frank Krejci of Omaha's Century Development and Rodney Yates of Arizona-based OTB Destination LLC — said they had signed leases with Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Chico's, the Gap, Lane Bryant and White House Black Market.

..................................

..............Yates, a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has a reputation for turning distressed and underperforming properties into moneymakers. He said he also is looking forward to working with Krejci on the redevelopment of Omaha's Crossroads Mall at 72nd and Dodge Streets. Krejci, who developed Oak View Mall, Brentwood Square in La Vista and other projects, purchased Crossroads in 2010 for $9.5 million.

Yates hinted that several retailers who have signed leases at the Gretna outlet mall are considering opening full-price stores at Crossroads Mall. He also indicated that Crossroads Mall will employ the customer engagement software.

Be still my beating heart, this is actually coming to fruition! It'd be awesome if eventually this did turn out like Legends, sans racetrack and stadium, they do have plenty of land around it to expand.

If they actully fill this up like an outlet mall that thrive elswhere I do not think they will need people like you and me to keep them busy.

I wonder if those who were regular Downtown Omaha shoppers in 1955 said that about the Crossroads? :)

Agreed, but these are exactly the types of places that people that will drive out there will drive to instead of driving to Village Pointe, Westroads or Oakview.

So, they're switching from outlet to regular strip mall stores. That will bring the crowds in.

The new design looks a lot better than the old one. Though I'm afraid it's going to turn out looking like it's trying to hard to be a cool regional mall.
“We pushed the reset button, and we changed our design from a long, linear design to a racetrack design,” said Yates, who joined Krejci, Avant Architects of Omaha, Kiewit Building Group, Gretna Mayor Jim Timmerman and others connected with the project Thursday at Century Development's office in the Elkhorn area.

SimCity was about 75% of the reason I became an urban planner. I found the quote on Reddit and there were about 6 or 7 comments by urban planners who said SimCity was their biggest influence as well.

I believe they have their Auction Sched for Jan 31. I would image it will be a few days after that for the buyers to get windows, doors, fixtures removed and then it will all come down. Bet it will be flat and haouled away in less than a week once they really start.

Just like everything else about this property over the last many years it looks like the auction has been delayed too. After seeing nothing that look like anything was removed after the 31st I looked at the Auction link and it is now schedualed for Feb 22.

And the plot thickens.

Lot more cost being shifted from the developer to Gretna per this story from today's OWH

http://www.omaha.com/article/20130219/M ... developers

The city would provide $57.4 million of the estimated $111.1 million in redevelopment costs through a package of measures including tax-increment financing, a sales tax rebate and occupation tax proceeds, according to a plan submitted by the city's Community Redevelopment Agency that assumes the project would create 500 full-time jobs.
Two years ago, in February 2011, Gretna residents approved diverting some of the city's sales taxes to help redevelop the mall in a special, vote-by-mail election. The plan was approved on a 1,342-to-93 vote. State law allows cities to divert the city's portion of the sales tax, up to 1.5 percent, for qualified redevelopment projects.

Just crossed my mind that today was the date schedualed for the auction last time I looked. Dame day I posted this by the way. Looks like it changed yet again sometime since the Feb 22 date was set. New date from the auction web site

Live On-Site Auction with Online Bidding
Begins: Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM CDT

Anyone want to bet that this ever gets built?

I'll take the bet. Pretty hefty contribution from Gretna tells me this gets done. I like the odds better with this than Crossroads....
