Bag & Save -> Hobby Lobby

According to Grow Omaha, Hobby Lobby may be looking at the old Bag and Save on 76th and Dodge next to best buy.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it would be great. That building has been empty forever!!!

I've been told by some people at the Best Buy next door that indeed Hobby Lobby is looking at relocating from their 90th street location. Was also told that if this goes through, the building will be torn down and rebuilt.

I thought I heard last year that Michael's was going in that space. Basically the same thing I guess. It would be nice to see that building torn down and rebuilt.

Hubs heard this week that Walmart is taking over the current spot where Hobby Lobby is on 90th street to put one of their Neighborhood Markets (Or whatever they are calling them). Don't know if this is true either.

Even with a re-build it seems that this would make a smaller location. The 90th location was at one time a Food City and A Drug Emporium. They were joined by a tunnel like hallway.

Hobby Lobby plans to build a new store at 75th and Dodge Streets, next to Best Buy, to replace its store near 90th and Lake Streets, according to city records.

Shoppers have been wondering about the future of the Hobby Lobby store at 2451 N. 90th St. since September 2011, when Walmart announced plans for a new 34,000-square-foot Walmart Neighborhood Market grocery store at the site.

Hobby Lobby's potential new home at 7510 Dodge St., now vacant, is the former location of the Bag 'N Save now at 7646 Dodge St.. Hobby Lobby plans to demolish that portion of the building and proceed with new construction, according to its permit. A new commercial building permit for a 55,923-square-foot store was issued in April, but no demolition permit has been requested.

Drug Emporium was in the South side of the building, the section that is now closed off.

Is there any update where the Hobby Lobby on 90th will move to? I heard the end of a segment on the Grow Omaha show today that said the the move into the old Bag 'n Save was scrapped.

Did Trenton say it was going to be scrapped? I was on the air with them and I remember saying was on hold, but I cant remember what he said after that.

I may have misheard it, but it sounded like a short time before construction the plans were stopped. Something about a revamp of the area, the Verizon move was mentioned as was Best Buy.

I thought I heard Best Buy was going to vacate some of their floor space for another storefront in the building, that might of been a while back though. That whole building parking lot needs to be redone, it is a mess.

The Hobby Lobby deal died. Krejci either bought or is trying to buy the master lease on the property. The purchase of the Toys r Us strip center by Krejci was cancelled.

I was surprised that Best Buy did not take over the Bag n Save in the first place. Both were the same parcel so it would have just been a larger lease. The University of NE Foundation bought the building in December. Not sure what that means for Best Buys' future.

That Hobby Lobby has only been about 50% of what it was for several months now. I believe they cut it way back last summer. A Neighborhood Market by Walmart will be taking over that lot on 90th. Hobby Lobby was going to build a new building where Bag and Save was formerly located next to Best Buy on 75th and Dodge. However the new rumor is that the Crossroads development will take over that land too and the Hobby Lobby plans were scrapped. Not a big deal because locally owned David M. That property is all jacked up with master leases, subleases, etc. It's sticky.

Hobby Lobby move to 75th, Dodge is blocked

Hobby Lobby is looking for a new location after its plans to construct a new store at 7510 Dodge St. — the site of a long-vacant Bag 'N Save grocery store — were rejected by Frank Krejci, owner of Crossroads Mall.

Krejci, who holds veto rights as the mall owner, challenged the project after Hobby Lobby already had made plans to close and relocate its store at 2541 N. 90th St. That store closed last month.

“I said no. It (Hobby Lobby) doesn't fit with the larger plans,” Krejci said, referring to his $350 million plan to redevelop Crossroads by tearing down the existing, largely vacant mall and building a new open-air shopping center and office spaces.

City Planning Director Rick Cunningham said planners were “not happy” when Hobby Lobby submitted its application to construct a store at 75th and Dodge.

“We were not very supportive of that, a parcel-by-parcel redevelopment. That isn't working and obviously hasn't worked in the past,” Cunningham said. “With the redevelopment plan, you get a whole that's worth more. He (Krejci) discovered he had the veto power over the property and he said, 'No.' ”

Anybody know off hand the term of Best Buy's lease? I would hope that keeping them are in the long term plans of the area. Even it is not in the current location.

I'm hoping they intend to tear down the Bag N' Save/Best Buy building. They don't mention that in the article though and UNMC's intention to hold on to the property as an "investment" is kind of concerning.

Cash flow. If the building is leased through 2059 why wouldn't you hold on to it?

Apparently Hobby Lobby is now buying the "Other" Bag and Save... The former Albertson's on 76th and Dodge.

I'm curious if they will remodel the interior and exterior to match what Hobby Lobby is building now, or if it will be Hobby Lobby circa 1990's when they mostly leased old grocery stores.

Considering they were going to build a brand new building on Bag N Save V1.0, I would assume they will put some money in to it.
